The season two queen shares which queen Lydia Butthole Kollins replaced on the Tournament of All Stars…
Lydia Butthole Kollins is making herstory as the queen with the shortest gap between a regular and All Stars season. Now, we’re learning from Nicole Paige Brooks that Lydia was a replacement, covering for a queen who bailed last minute.
In a “Get Ready With Me” livestream, with about 70 people, the season two queen may have broken a few embargoes as she spilled some hot tea for fans. Nicole shared that the original queen meant to compete with her in the Pink Bracket had already met the cast at the hotel, but decided not to participate in the end. “They [production] said this drag queen who is also a heterosexual…is not going to be here,” she revealed.
While Nicole may have thought she was being sly, the identity of the queen was no mystery to fans given there has only been one straight contestant in franchise history – Maddy Morphosis. Near the end of the livestream, Nicole can be heard confirming the Give it to me Straight host’s identity.
Nicole went on to share how production came to each queen’s room with a laptop, telling them “this is the person that’s going to be here. They’re on season 17.” The queens proceeded to watch Lydia’s runway packages and some challenges in preparation for her arrival and the ‘Reading’ mini-challenge. “That’s how we met Lydia. On the internet,” Nicole continued.
While some of the queens may have seen Lydia on social media, her appearance on the latest season would have been unknown. When All Stars 10 went into production season 17 had not aired and the cast wasn’t announced. The only queen who would have had knowledge of Lydia’s performance was Mistress Isabelle Brooks who was a guest on the season’s roast challenge, which Lydia won.
The season two queen also revealed how they were told to pretend to have already seen season 17 while filming. “That was really weird,” she explained.
Last month, IN Magazine reported on Lydia’s u-turn back to the Werk Room. The queen has publicly shared how three weeks after her season wrapped, she was asked to come back with only five days to prepare. Nicole confirmed this, noting filming for her bracket was delayed by five days.
Lydia and Nicole will compete against each other in the Pink Bracket of the Tournament of All Stars alongside Tina Burner, Jorgeous, Mistress Isabelle Brooks and Kerri Colby.
The tenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 10 (also referred to as RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars: Tournament of All Stars on the show) will air on CRAVE in Canada.
