Lady Gaga used her Grammys acceptance speech to lift up the transgender community and address the escalating anti-trans rhetoric and legislation in the United States…
On Sunday night Lady Gaga and Bruno Wars took home the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their song “Die With A Smile” at the 67th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
The duo stepped on stage together and gave each other praise while accepting the award. After a pause, an emotional Gaga spoke directly into the mic in support of trans people and the queer community.
“It is a privilege to be a songwriter and a producer and musician. It is an honour to sing for all of you. I just want to say tonight that trans people are not invisible. Trans people deserve love. The queer community deserves to be lifted up. Music is love. Thank you.”
Gaga’s words of support received a standing ovation from the audience at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.
Gaga wasn’t the only Grammy winner to speak out in support of trans rights at the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday night. Speaking on the red carpet with GLAAD, Chappell Roan took the time to send a message to the trans community: “It’s brutal right now, but trans people have always existed and they will forever exist,” she said. “And they will never, no matter what happens, take trans joy away, and that has to be protected more than anything because I would not be here without trans girls. Just know that pop music is thinking about you and cares about you, and I’m doing my best to really stand up for you in every way I can.”
