The Queen of the North is joining the cast of the untitled action-comedy film with six other Drag Race alum…
Brooke Lynn Hytes is about to grace the big screen as she books a ticket on the Glamazonian Express! Last month, World of Wonder announced the Drag Race universe would expand with a theatrical film. The untitled, and kind of unhinged, action-comedy movie is set to be directed by Hairspray’s Adam Shankman.
The film follows best friends and train stewardesses Tess and DeeDee who trade their dreary shifts on the Stank Rail for the glitzy Glamazonian Express. When ‘Stormganza’ threatens to derail the high-speed train into Los Angeles, the duo in coach must join forces with the snobby first class attendants, and President Gagwell, to save the day. The film, by its description, is giving Airplane meets Speed meets Snowpiercer meets Bullet Train.
There is no official release date yet, but the casting announcement is giving us something to get excited about.
Who is starring in the Drag Race film?
Aside from RuPaul in the role of President Gagwell, Drag Race alum as far back as season two and as recent as season 15 will star in the movie. Alongside Canada’s Drag Race host Brooke Lynn Hytes other queens appearing in lead roles include: All Star 10 winner Ginger Minj, All Stars 4 winner Monét X Change, season 13 winner Symone as well as Jujubee, Latrice Royale and Marcia Marcia Marica. The video for the cast announcement teases more names are to come.
Ginger Minj and Jujubee will play best friends Tess and Dee. Brooke Lynn Hytes, Symone, Marcia Marcia Marcia and Latrice Royale will play the snobby first class attendants. Monét X Change’s character has yet to be announced.
“This is so exciting! It’s my first feature!” Marcia Marcia Marcia said on an Instagram story before gushing about the cast. “I’m so pumped!”
This will be Marcia Marcia Marcia’s first time working with this cast of queens. The others have worked together on projects including AJ and the Queen, The Bitch Who Stole Christmas, Huluween Dragstravaganza and various Drag Race specials or franchises.
Who else is working on the Drag Race Film?
Aside from Shankman directing, Connor Wright and Christina Friel will write the feature. Both wrote the holiday drag film The Bitch Who Stole Christmas and are current writers on the animated series Grimsburg. The Drag Race film will be their first theatrical release.
Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato, Tom Campbell, RuPaul Charles and Shankman will act as producers. Unapologetic Projects is an executive producer and financier on the project. Bleecker Street will release the film.
