While the soap opera has featured other LGBTQ+ characters, there has never been a gay male couple or kiss in its 37 year history…
CBS soap opera The Bold and The Beautiful will feature its first gay male romance. Harrison Cone (The Summer I Turned Pretty, Hacks) makes his debut today on the long-running series. While his character’s name has yet to be revealed, due to a spoiler, we are learning a bit about who Cone is portraying.
The actor will play an aspiring fashion designer at Forrester Creations. He will also be the love interest of Christian Weissmann’s character Remy Pryce. Not only will the two be an item, they’ll also share the show’s first kiss between two men – it only took them 37 years!
Weissmann’s first appearance as Remy was back in 2024. His storyline revolved around an obsession with the character Electra Forrester (Laneya Grace). He’s described as a dark and complex person who feels isolated and neglected. Could this new relationship flip that narrative permanently? We’ll have to wait and see.
Has The Bold and Beautiful featured LGBTQ+ storylines before?
While Cone and Weissmann’s relationship will be the first same-sex male couple on the series, it’s not the first LGBTQ+ storyline.
In 2012, the series featured a lesbian relationship between characters Karen (played by Joanna Johnson) and Danielle (played by Crystal Chappell). Unfortunately, the storyline didn’t last long with Danielle leaving in 2013 and Karen the following year.
Three years later the character Maya Avant came out as a trans woman, making her the first regular trans character on a Daytime TV. Many critics felt the storyline was just to create buzz. Others found the casting controversial as actress Kara Mosley is a cisgender woman.
In 2015, Scott Turner Schofield became the first out transgender actor on Daytime television, portraying Nick.
What is The Bold and the Beautiful about?
The Bold and the Beautiful is the half-hour sister soap of The Young and The Restless. The show premiered in 1987, diving into the high society fashion world of Los Angeles. The series centres around the Forrester family as they navigate stories of mystery, romance, power and family legacy.
The series has won 77 Daytime Emmy Awards. This year it picked up three Daytime Emmy nominations with one being for Weissmann’s performance. Winners will be announced on October 17.
