Grindr and Christina Aguilera Want You To 'Come On Over'

Grindr And Christina Aguilera Want You To ‘Come On Over’

The pair have teamed up for a collaboration that will have Grindr notifications sounding a little different…

Grindr is changing its iconic ‘bloop’ sound in the US this week and replacing it with the seductive vocals of Grammy winner Christina Aguilera. Until September 22, every time a Grindr user gets a notification they’ll be notified by Xtina herself singing “Come On Over.” The double entendre is the partnership we didn’t know we needed.

“We know the bloop is sacred. That’s why we’re only letting one of pop’s greatest diva’s mess with it—because there ain’t no other man, woman, or app sound that could do it better,” Grindr said in a press release.

The partnership is in celebration of Aguilera headlining this weekend’s Portola Music Festival in San Francisco. The classic Grindr sound will return on September 23.

“Portola, Grindr and me? That’s a threesome I can get behind,” Aguilera said in the release. Grindr also released a short social media video promoting the notification change with the Dirty singer.

While this is the first official collaboration with the app, it’s not the first time her music has been associated with Grindr. Gay TikTok users love using her song “Genie in a Bottle” in comedy videos about the app. Most videos have on-screen text reading “POV: gays before a Grindr meet up.” They use Aguilera’s debut single as the sound, focusing on the lyrics “my body’s saying let’s go, but my heart is saying no,” highlighting the dilemma of whether one should hook-up or not.

Sadly, the sound isn’t in Canada. But hope that if Xtina ever comes for a show north of the border that Grindr will do the same activation. Or should we suggest the notification be to B4-4’s not-so-subtle song about oral sex “Get Down”?

When did “Come On Over” come out?

The song was featured on Aguilera’s self-titled debut album. It was released as the album’s final single in 2000, nine years before Grindr made its debut. It was her third number one hit in the United States and peaked to number four on Canadian charts.

The music video featured a 19 year-old Aguilera in a playful yet sporty look. The popstar had various outfits, most involving crop tops with a bejeweled midriff and flared pants. In her white ensemble she sports red extensions. The video is full of choreography and her walking down a red staircase that gives Material Girl by Madonna vibes.

We can keep describing the video, but it’s probably best if you just watch it yourself.
