Meet The ‘Ontario Wine Girls’ Who Are Ready To Sip And Slay The End Of Summer

‘Sunday Wine Afternoons with the Ontario Wine Girls’ is set to serve fashion, music, drag and wine at Toronto’s STACKT Market until September 14…

For the next three Sundays (August 31, September 7 and 14), Wines of Ontario invites wine lovers and the wine curious to a pop-up guaranteed to serve full bodied realness. Sunday Wine Afternoons with the Ontario Wine Girls aims to bring a fresh perspective on wine through drag.

The Sunday social at Toronto’s STACKT Market showcases three up-and-coming Toronto drag queens. Each will embody the essence of one of the province’s signature wine styles: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir or Sparkling. Together they make up the glamorous Ontario Wine Girls who will showcase iconic looks and deliver powerhouse lip sync performances.

The event is just one of a series of wine related activations at this immersive pop-up by Wines of Ontario.

Who are the Ontario Wine Girls?

The Ontario Wine Girls consist of Paris Matik, Madee Lovegood and STAR, who will transform into the wine persona that best matches their personality.

Paris Matik represents Pinot Noir, which is smooth, seductive and never afraid of a little drama. The queen moved to Toronto from Mexico in 2021. Her drag takes inspiration from pop culture and musical artists like Lady Gaga and Rihanna. She is a regular at Crews & Tangos and on the drag brunch circuit performing at venues like Belfast Love.

Bearded baddie Madee Lovegood is known for her personality, hosting skills, high energy performances and fashion sense. Her drag mission is to show middle eastern queers that they do exist and are valid. She embodies the golden and opulent Chardonnay persona described as balanced and a little bit brazen.

Last, but not least, is the shining and glimmering STAR. Known as Toronto’s dancing diva, she has been giving audiences live vocals and choreography since the age of four. You might recognize STAR from her appearance on an episode of Priyanka’s Drag Brunch Saved My Life. Given her dazzling name it makes sense that she channels VQA Sparking. It’s effervescent, radiant and show-stopping just like her.

What can people expect at Sunday Wine Afternoons?

For the next three Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Ontario Wine Girls will serve energy, style and show us their lip syncing talents. Each queen is outfitted in a stunning custom-created corset designed by Dianna DiNoble who has outfitted drag legends Jimbo, Priyanka and Bosco.

Attendees can mingle with the queens and sip on a selection of Ontario VQA wines. At the end of the event, one queen is crowned the favourite varietal of the afternoon. The event was created in collaboration with drag producer Alex Dooley of Dooley Noted Productions

From Tuesday to Sunday until the end of October, market visitors can enjoy a wine bar with a rotating drink menu. A photography exhibit by David Pike, titled Expressions of the Vine, is also on display. The photo series captures portraits of the people behind the province’s VQA wines.
