It’s the semifinals! The top three queens from each bracket bring the laughs with Snatch Game. Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar is a guest judge…
Last week the first round of All Stars finished when the bracket three queens competed in an improv challenge. After Ginger and Daya were named as the top two queens of the week, they lip synced for the extra point, which went to Daya, securing her spot with Ginger in the semifinals. After the MVQ points were distributed on stage, Cynthia Lee Fontaine was announced as the third queen to move onto the next round from bracket three. This week, the top nine compete in the Snatch Game challenge as the semifinals begin. Let’s get into it.
This week’s episode begins back on the main stage with Ru and Michelle in their sports commentator blazers. After a tailgating field report from Ross, the semifinalists take the runway. Irene, Bosco, and Aja from bracket one. Jorgeous, Lydia, and Mistress from bracket two. Finally, it’s Ginger, Daya, and Cynthia from bracket three. Ru announces that the semifinals will last for two weeks, and all of their points from the previous rounds will be wiped clean. Ru will name one top all star of the week who will receive a cash tip. The two bottom queens of the week will lip sync for their lives, and there will be eliminations in this round. For this week’s maxi challenge, the queens will be playing Snatch Game. Ru gives them two simple rules, impersonate, and make. Her. Laugh.
The queens all settle back into the werk room and notice their point boards have been reset back to zero. Mistress gathers her fellow bracket two games to formulate a plan. The bracket one and three queens mingle on the other side of the room. Mistress and the gang rejoin the group and immediately try to ruffle some feathers. After getting out of drag, they start preparing for Snatch Game. Ginger is feeling pressure to do well after excelling the last two times she’s played. Daya’s season had a terrible Snatch Game, and she wants to do well this time.
The queens pick each other’s brains about the characters they’ve brought and Mistress continues her mind games with Ginger. Ru enters the werk room and chats to the queens in small groups about who they’ll be impersonating. Some of the queens are super excited to play Snatch Game again, and others are nervous.
It’s time for Snatch Game to begin. Playing with the queens are Drag Race royalty Raven and Raja. This season we have Bosco as Las Vegas drag legend Kenny Kerr. Jorgeous as Mr. Worldwide, Pitbull. Daya Betty as Jane Lynch, as Sue Sylvester (Glee). Cynthia as Count Dracula, Irene as Zsa Zsa Gabor, Aja as Cookie Tookie. Rounding out the group is Lydia as Pete Burns, Ginger as Reba, Mistress as reality tv icon Natalie Nunn. The game kicks off and Cynthia’s Dracula isn’t really volleying the jokes. Ginger, Jorgeous, and Bosco do well right out of the gate. The majority of the queens do alright, but Aja, Mistress, and Cyntia were the ones who struggled to get laughs.
Back in the werk room it’s elimination day, and a lot of the queens are excited and proud of their performances. Jorgeous tells Bosco she did a really good job, but she’s feeling good. Also feeling good about their performance is Mistress. Irene tries to put her in her place and Mistress decides to ask the group for everyone’s personal bottom three queens. Aja isn’t feeling great about her character and tells Bosco she’s afraid to go home because she feels she could lose everything at any point. Daya asks Ginger what it was like playing with Mistress and Ginger says it was fine. Ginger stays cautiously optimistic about competing with Mistress.
Out on the runway, Ru introduces this week’s panel of judges Michelle, Carson, and this week’s extra special guest judge, actress and icon Sarah Michelle Gellar. This week on the runway the category is “Tirami Suit”, and the queens strut in showstopping tear-away looks. Following the runway Ru tells Bosco, Daya, and Irene, they are all safe for the week. The rest of the queens represent the tops and bottoms. Critiques start with Jorgeous. Michelle and Ru both loved her Pitbull, and Ru calls her tear away look absolutely gorgeous, which the other judges echo. Michelle tells Cynthia she didn’t go big enough with her Dracula, which resident vampire expert Sarah Michelle Gellar agrees with. Ru says it was so awful she loved it. All of the judges agree that her Tiramisu-inspired look didn’t wow anyone. Aja’s performance in the Snatch Game was missing a story arc and felt repetitive, but the judges love her butterfly runway look. Michelle loved how comfortable Lydia felt with portraying Pete Burns, she just wished there was more laughter from it. Sarah and Carson both liked her Snatch Game but Carson thinks her satin gown could have been steamed better. Michelle loved Ginger’s Reba, and Ru tells her she did great. Carson didn’t love the proportions of her Zoot Suit but adored her wedding dress. Michelle tells Mistress she knows, Mistress knows who Natalie was but her performance was just one note with not enough jokes. All of the judges love her transformative look.
After deliberations Ru announces that the top queen of the week is Ginger, with Jorgeous following in second place. Jorgeous, Aja, and Lydia are all safe. This leaves Mistress and Cynthia as the bottom two queens of the week. Both queens are up for elimination and lip sync for their lives to “Who’s Zoomin’ Who” by Aretha Franklin. Both queens go for a larger-than-life approach to the lip sync which gets a couple of laughs from the judges, but Ru decides Mistress Isabelle Brooks will stay in the competition. It’s the end of the line for Cynthia Lee Fontaine, or is it? Ru tells her (and the rest of the queens) that there’s still a chance she could win the wild card lottery. Until then, we’ll always have Cucu.
Next week on All Stars: Mistress continues to stir the pot and the queens throw a good old fashioned talent show.
