Watch The Trailer: A New Documentary Summarizes Canadian Queer Activism

After winning the Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature at Inside Out 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival, we are now getting a glimpse of the trailer for Parade: Queer Acts of Love and Resistance, a new documentary capturing over 50 years of queer activism in 90 minutes.

The documentary from director Noam Gonick and producer Justine Pimlott, captures pivotal moments that sparked Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ movement, honouring the activists and elders whose resistance led to the rights we have today. It uses rarely seen archival footage and first-person accounts from those on the front lines to bring these key queer milestones to life, some of which Gonick and Pimlott have either witnessed or been a part of.

“Queer archives shouldn’t be allowed to get dusty; those snapshots, video clips and film reels ought to see the light of day—so that we can give flowers to those who made a difference. With Parade, we wanted to put viewers on the street where our rights were won,” said Gonick in a press kit statement for the film.

The film has currently been on the festival circuit, honoured as the opening night film at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival earlier this year and as the Official Selection of Rainbow Visions Film Festival in Edmonton. It will be released on all National Film Board (NFB) platforms for free starting June 27, 2025.

For those wanting to watch the film with their local 2SLGBTQI+ community, which we recommend, the NFB is taking the film across Canada to various communities until August for screenings. Confirmed dates, with more to be added, include:
