During a press tour for their new film Bride Hard, the pair talk about being part of the 2SLGBTQI+ community…
There are many iconic scenes from the first Pitch Perfect, but there are two in particular involving Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp that are resurfacing as the pair do a press tour for their upcoming film Bride Hard.
“So, you know there’s like 10 of us,” Fat Amy (Wilson) tells fellow acapella group member Aubrey (Camp) in the first film. “That means one of us is probably a lesbian.” Now, over a decade later, both are proud members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community.
“It’s been really wonderful to be so welcomed and so supported,” Camp said in the interview alongside Wilson with the outlet PRIDE. “Especially by my really beautiful and wonderful friend here [Wilson]. Life is an evolution and I’m very happy where I am today.”
When talking about the “lesbi-honest” scene, also between the pair, Wilson shared how she felt delivering the line. “I made that joke secretly, maybe thinking I was the gay one! Surprise!”
Wilson also recalled a touching moment on the Pitch Perfect 2 set, between her castmates in the interview. “A lot of us girls were having a chat between takes about sexuality. It was such a kind, honest, open chat. It really meant a lot to me that day on set,” she said.
Finding their perfect duet partners
In May, Camp announced in an Instagram Story her relationship with on-set stylist Jade Whipkey. People began questioning her sexuality after an on-the-street style interview with Mr. Big USA in February, where she said “I don’t expect anything from a guy anymore because [I’m dating a woman], and it’s great!” While some speculated she had come out, the audio muffled during the “I’m dating a woman” proclamation leaving some to question what she actually said. The actress was previously married to Criminal Minds actor Michael Mosley and Pitch Perfect costar Skylar Astin.
Wilson went public with her sexuality and relationship with leisure wear designer Ramona Agruma in 2022. The announcement wasn’t what she planned as a gossip columnist from the Sydney Morning Herald outed Wilson after she failed to respond to a request for comment. She explained the ordeal by saying “Basically, with the situation where a journalist is threatening to out you, you’ve got to hurry, and some people we didn’t get a chance to tell before it came out publicly. And that’s not ideal.”
While the situation wasn’t the fairytale she may have wanted, her relationship was. Wilson and Agruma got engaged at Disneyland the following year on Valentine’s Day and got married twice in 2024 with a ceremony in Italy and Australia.
Bride Hard, won’t have you laughing hard
The pair’s new action comedy Bride Hard, which hits theatres June 20, follows Sam (Wilson), a world-class secret agent and a pretty terrible maid of honor. After blowing off bridal duties for an international spy mission, she’s demoted to bridesmaid at her childhood best friend Betsy’s (Camp) wedding. What should’ve been a weekend of reconnecting and celebration turns into a death trap when armed mercenaries crash the big day. Sam’s the only one who can save the bride, and hopefully earn back the trust she lost along the way. The film also stars Anna Chlumsky (Inventing Anna), Academy Award winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers) and Justin Hartley (This Is Us).
While the film sounds fun, early reviews are giving it a thumbs down. The Wrap said it’s “where humour goes to die,” while the Associated Press says it’s a film “that’s easy to break up with.” Whatever the verdict, we are loving this Pitch Perfect reunion especially during Pride Month.
