Finishing sixth on her season of Drag Race, Utica has proven to be a fashion powerhouse making this return to reality TV fitting…
She quickly proved she wasn’t a “Hot Glue Gun Girl” on RuPaul’s Drag Race and now Season 13 queen Utica will flex her design skills once again on Project Runway premiering July 31 on Freeform, Hulu and Disney+. Competing under their real name Ethan Mundt, the former Drag Race contestant will face off against 12 other competitors in front of Heidi Klum.
“Still pinching myself!! Walking into the Project Runway workroom felt like stepping into a dream, but even more surreal was walking in wearing something that carries the spirit of drag with me,” the queen said on Instagram.
Utica’s appearance on the show marks the first ever RuPaul’s Drag Race crossover onto Project Runway. “It’s more than a look, it’s a symbol. A symbol of how far our art form has come, of how the worlds of fashion and drag continue to grow, influence, and uplift each other,” she said about the crossover.
Her Instagram post goes on to thank the drag community for teaching her how to turn fabric into fantasy and the fashion world for opening their runways to queens like her.
From Season 13 to dressing Drag Race winners and judges…
Utica is arguably the best queen to compete on Project Runway. She not only dominated her season fashion wise, but season’s after and across franchises as she has outfitted other contestants and judges with her quirky, theatrical, Avant-garde and campy fashion style.
During her season’s Bag Ball Eleganza design challenge, her sleeping bag dress got rave reviews and has been called one the best design looks ever by fans – even if it lost to Gottmik’s outfit. Utica would win only one maxi-challenge for the episode Freaky Friday Queens where queens had to makeover another contestant into their drag doppelganger.
While she came in 6th place, Utica’s a go to designer for other queen’s runway packages. She designed winner Willow Pill’s three-headed look for the grand finale of season 14…

Project Runway is looking to “make it work” with Mickey Mouse
Premiering on Bravo over 20 years ago, season 21 marks the show’s move to Disney-owned properties airing/streaming on Freeform, Disney+ and Hulu. The network move will see the return of Heidi Klum who left the series after season 16 as well as Nina Garcia, who has judged every season, and Drag Race rotating judge Law Roach.
The season will also be stacked with guest judges including Tyra Banks, Zac Posen, Sofia Vergara, Michael Kors, Nikki Glaser and more.
The renewal of the series came as a surprise as many speculated its all stars season, airing in 2023, was the last for the long-running fashion franchise. Now fans are wondering how Disney-fied the season will be and if, like Dancing with the Stars, the challenges will be used to promote upcoming Disney properties. For that, fans will have to wait and see on July 31.
