RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 10 Episode 3: Hoop Queens

The Bracket 1 queens take it to the court with a basketball themed makeover challenge. Actor Kate Beckinsale is a guest judge…

We’ve made it to the final episode of the first bracket. In the last episode, the six queens dusted off their improv skills with a murder mystery challenge. Irene and Bosco took the top two spots of the week and battled it out with a good ol’ fashioned Murder on the Dancefloor. Bosco took the extra point to tie Irene for the top spot. This week we’ll find out who the bonus points from the safe queens will go to and Bracket 1 will close with one final challenge. Let’s get into it.

This week’s episode begins in the werk room following Bosco’s lip sync win. All of the safe queens gather on the couches to discuss where their points will go. Irene and Bosco enter with their updated 4-point pins and Bosco is so happy she doesn’t have to participate in the point distribution. Aja gives her point to Olivia, Phoenix gives hers to Deja, Olivia gives hers to Deja which gags Aja, and Deja gives her point to Olivia. Phoenix and Aja both didn’t get an extra point, but now Deja, Olivia, and Aja all have three points. In private Olivia talks to Aja about her thought process which Aja is not buying.

It’s a new day in the werk room and the Bracket 1 queens are feeling ready to take on their final challenge. Around the table, Aja brings up her alliance with Olivia and says she doesn’t trust her going forward. Olivia talks everyone through her thought process which Phoenix finds shady because she only has one point. Ru interrupts with a message about athletics, which prompts the queens to head to the basketball court. They’re met with Ru and a group of college basketball players. This week they’ll be giving these dunking divas drag sister makeovers. To pair them up, they’ll have to shoot some hoops. The queen that sinks the most free throws in a minute will get to pair everybody up. The winner of the free throw challenge is Irene and she pairs the queens with the basketball players. In addition to the drag family makeover, they’ll have to write, record, and perform a verse to a new song.

The queens and their ballers get back to the werk room to get the makeovers started. They break off into pairs and get to know each other, and their comfort zones. The basketball players get tips and tricks from the queens, but the queens are also getting great advice about competition from the players. Everyone is getting along great in their pairs, and this challenge is the make or break with who is moving forward to the semifinals. In their pairs they get time to practice their choreography on the main stage. The basketball players are a little stiff with the moves, but they’re no stranger to practicing.

It’s elimination day and also the last day for our Bracket 1 queens. Phoenix is bringing back her iconic season 3 entrance wig for her look. In the corner Olivia attempts to clear the air with Aja, and it seems to get through. The basketball divas enter the werk room. Deja’s baller commits to the bit by shaving her eyebrows and the competitive spirit in the room rises. The queens connect with the athlete’s struggle to be seen as feminine and other misconceptions.

Out on the main stage, Ru introduces this week’s panel of judges Michelle, Ts Madison, and this week’s extra special guest, actor Kate Beckinsale. On the runway the category is “Drag Family Resemblance” and the pairs take turns strutting on the stage. Following the runway presentations it’s time for the world premiere of Shoot Your Shot. All of the pairs do a great job performing their parts of the songs, it will be a tough week to judge.

Critiques start with Deja. The judges love that she gave Abby the whole drag experience but Michelle says she doesn’t see family resemblance but Kate disagrees. Irene is up next and Michelle says Irene and her new sister nailed the challenge. Ts says she was blown away by her lyrics. Kate says Bosco and Lauren were giving total fashion and Michelle loved their complimentary looks which still allowed them to shine individually. The judges like Pheonix and Maya’s season 3 nod and all agree the resemblance is there, but the pair were too in their head walking the runway. Next, the judges tell Olivia and Neveah their retro-inspired look and Michelle calls it a masterclass on what family resemblance should mean when you’re not twinning, and loved their energy in the performance. Finally, Kate tells Aja that her and Talia’s fairy outfits were a great juxtaposition to their hard lyrics. Michelle says the look is a bit costumey, but Aja defends it.

Following deliberations Ru announces the top two queens of the week are Irene and Bosco for the second week in a row. The four safe queens step to the back of the stage while the two tops lip sync for that extra point to Pocketbookby Jennifer Hudson feat. Ludacris. Both of these queens are heading to the semifinals, but this lip sync determines who leaves the bracket in first place. Both queens give it their all but at the end it’s Irene who takes the final win in this bracket. She’s heading to the semifinals with 7 points. Aja, Deja, Olivia, and Phoenix step to the front and are tasked with giving their point away on the stage right now. The queens write their pick down on a mirror and reveal their selections. Aja gives a point to Deja, Deja gives hers to Olivia, Olivia gives her point to Aja tying her up with Deja and Olivia. Finally, Phoenix basically has the power to decide the final queen going to the semifinals, and she chooses to give her point to Aja, making her the third queen heading to the semifinals along with Irene and Bosco. But all is not lost, Deja, Phoenix, and Olivia still have a chance to re-enter the competition with a vote from the judges prior to the finale in the wildcard spot.

Next week on All Stars: A new bracket of queens arrive to compete and the first challenge is a ball.
