Out September 5, “Love, Freddie: Freddie Mercury’s Secret Life and Love” reveals content from 17 secret diaries Mercury gifted to his secret daughter…
An upcoming Freddie Mercury biography is set to reveal that the Queen frontman had a secret little princess. In Love, Freddie: Freddie Mercury’s Secret Life and Love author Lesley-Ann Jones is dropping a major bombshell about the We Are The Champions singer introducing the alleged existence of a daughter he welcomed in 1976.
The new biography is based on a series of 17 secret diaries bestowed to his daughter just before his death from pneumonia caused by AIDS in 1991. “He entrusted his collection of private notebooks to me, his only child and his next of kin, the written record of his private thoughts, memories and feelings about everything he had experienced,” says his daughter, revealed only as “B” to protect her privacy, in the book.
The daughter, a 48-year-old medical professional based in Europe, was the result of a fling Mercury had with a close friend. Knowledge of her existence was limited to Mercury’s parents, sister, bandmates and his closest friend Mary Austin. Outside of his circle the only person to know of the relation, other than the birth mother, was the daughter’s stepfather.
“Freddie Mercury was and is my father. We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the final 15 years of his life,” she says in a handwritten note in the biography. The book also shares how Mercury would visit her often growing up and even had a room at their home.
As to why she came forward in 2021 to biographer Jones, a letter from “B” included in the book reads, “After more than three decades of lies, speculation and distortion, it is time to let Freddie speak. Those who have been aware of my existence kept his greatest secret out of loyalty to Freddie. That I choose to reveal myself in my own midlife is my decision and mine alone.”
Mercury’s loyal fans were quick to question the claims of his secret daughter, demanding a DNA test. In a post to X, the author said “To those ‘demanding’ to see proof of a DNA test, otherwise they won’t believe it – please rest assured that the requisite verification was obtained, legal teams have been involved, but that such measures are private and not shared publicly.”
Jones, who has two other books written about the rockstar, told the Daily Mail that she didn’t think “B” could fake any of this and that she is sure she isn’t a fantasist. “Why would she have worked with me for three-and-a-half years, never demanding anything?” she shared
She also dispelled rumours that the book is based on fake diaries, writing on X, “To those insisting Freddie Mercury’s diaries were ‘faked with AI,’ that his daughter ‘doesn’t exist’ & that I’ve made the whole thing up: wait & see!”
Jones’ website states the new book “will overturn everything we thought we knew about him and his legacy.” As of now the contents of the book, including the above excerpts, have only been reviewed and seen by the Daily Mail in a world exclusive article published last week. No one from Mercury’s inner circle has confirmed their knowledge of “B,” as of yet.
