Director Roshan Sethi’s queer romantic-comedy A Nice Indian Boy hit select theatres across Canada and the U.S. on April 4…
Jonathan Groff and Karan Soni lead the heartwarming new gay rom-com, A Nice Indian Boy, which hit theatres across the country today. Director Roshan Sethi’s film features plenty of “comic misunderstandings, frank fights and emotional revelations,” according to a synopsis.
The movie also stars Sunita Mani, Zarna Garg, Harish Patel, Peter S. Kim and Sas Goldberg.
A Nice Indian Boy centers on Naveen (Soni), an introverted doctor grappling with introducing his artist boyfriend, Jay (Groff), to his traditional Indian parents amid the possibility of planning a big wedding.
“My parents are super liberal,” Soni says in the trailer. “Just don’t bring up drinking or sex — and no displays of physical affection.”
Later, Groff reflects on their romantic path. “I think a lot of people are a little embarrassed by the bigness of love,” he says. “The family, the wedding — it’s about everybody together.”
Adapted by Eric Randall based on Madhuri Shekar’s play of the same name, and executive produced by Mindy Kaling, Justin Baldoni and more, A Nice Indian Boy originally premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival.
A Nice Indian Boy, starring Jonathan Groff and Karan Soni, is playing in select theatres across North America now. You can watch the trailer for the queer rom-com below:
