The “Tournament of All Stars” is set to stream on May 9. With 18 queens competing there are already plenty of herstory making moments, potential Rudemptions and more…
Not even a week into Onya Nurve’s reign and Drag Race fans are already shifting their attention to who will be inducted into the Drag Race Hall of Fame.
Yesterday, the cast of All Stars 10 was announced with a record breaking 18 queens set to compete in a tournament style competition. This season RuPaul is welcoming back Kerri Colby (season 14), Nicole Paige Brooks (season 2), Jorgeous (season 14, All Stars 9), Tina Burner (season 13), Mistress Isabelle Brooks (season 15), Lydia Butthole Kollins (season 17), DeJa Skye (season 14), Phoenix (season 3), Olivia Lux (season 13), Irene the Alien (season 15), Bosco (season 14), Aja (season 9, All Stars 3), Denali (season 13), Cynthia Lee Fontaine (season 8, season 9), Alyssa Hunter (season 14), Daya Betty (season 14), Acid Betty (season 8), and Ginger Minj (season 7, All Stars 2 and 6).
As with every season the fandom is freaking out, sharing plenty of fun facts, easter eggs and herstory making moments. Here are 10 things to know about All Stars 10 that you can use to impress friends or that might show up during a Drag Race trivia night.
1. A new format
All Stars is constantly changing its format with contestants competing in pairs, peer elimination, lip sync assassins and non-elimination seasons. Now the franchise is getting another All Stars glow-up with a tournament unlike any other. This season 18 queens will be divided into three groups of six who will compete over three episodes (ie. group one will compete in episodes 1-3, group two in episodes 4-6 and group three episodes 7-9). Queens will accumulate points and those with the most points will advance to the semifinals (episodes 10-11) and then the grand finale (episode 12).
2. Move over Jujubee, a new queen is joining the four timers club
Jujubee may have competed four times in front of mother Ru, but Ginger Minj is the first queen to compete four times (season 7 and All Stars 2 and 6) on the American franchise. Ginger has reached grande finale twice, but with the drag calibre this season she’ll have to claw her way through the tournament.
3. Three queens for a three-peat
Aja (Season 9 and All Stars 3), Jorgeous (Season 14 and All Stars 9) and Cynthia Lee Fontaine (Season 8 and 9) are returning for their third try at snatching the crown – a feat only Jimbo (All Stars 8), Ra’Jah O’Hara (Canada’s Drag Race: Canada vs. the World S1) and Lemon (Canada’s Drag Race: Canada vs. the World S2) have achieved.
4. Sibling rivalry
Will drag sisters Bosco and Irene the Alien play nice or will their competitiveness pit them against each other? The queens are the first pair of drag siblings to compete against each other on an All Stars season…and they’re on the same team. While Bosco went all the way to the season 14 finale, Irene the Alien was the porkchop of season 15. Another fun fact is that Irene’s drag daughter, Arrietty, just competed on season 17.
5. A season 14 RuUnion
Back in 2016, All Stars 2 was a season 5 reunion with four queens returning to compete. Now, All Stars 10 has surpassed that record with six queens from season 14, which include Alyssa Hunter, Bosco, Daya Betty, DeJa Skye, Jorgeous and Kerri Colby.
6. The longest and shortest return to an All Stars
Lydia Butthole Collins is making herstory as the queen with the shortest gap between a regular and All Stars season. The season 17 queen will return to our screens just three weeks after her season ended. On the flipside, Nicole Paige Brooks has the longest gap between a regular and All Stars season for this cast. She competed 15 years ago on season 2…when Lydia was only nine years old.
7. The shortest gap between All Stars
Speaking of short, Jorgeous is the first back-to-back All Stars queen. It will be less than a year since her last appearance, meaning she now holds the record for the shortest gap between All Stars seasons. We don’t blame her though, we know putting together that drag runway package isn’t cheap and last season was for charity.
8. One queen with new name
All Stars has been the spot for queens to reintroduce themselves to the world. On All Stars 6, winner Kylie Sonique Love re-introduced herself after previously competing as Sonique. On RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs. the World S1, Monique Heart changed their name to Mo Heart, while her fellow All Stars 4 sister Trinity Taylor renamed herself to Trinity the Tuck. Now, Irene Dubios is embracing her full alien form, introducing herself as Irene the Alien.
9. Four potential RuDemptions
Who doesn’t love a good RuDemption storyline! Look at Tessa Testicle from Global All Stars and Jaymes Mansfield from All Stars 8. If anything, the early outs work their asses off to redeem themselves on an All Stars. So we’re excited for Irene the Alien, Alyssa Hunter, Phoenix and Nicole Paige Brooks to show their evolution.
10. A Battle of the Betty’s
There is no drag family relation between the two, but Daya and Acid are ready to see which Betty will come out on top. Acid Betty (season 8) began her drag career as just “Acid,” but added “Betty” because of her love to Bettie Page. Daya Betty (season 14), from the House of Methyd, is reference to the queen’s Type 1 Diabetes.
The tenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 10 (also referred to as RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars: Tournament of All Stars on the show) is slated to premiere on May 9, 2025 on CRAVE in Canada.
