Drag Race Creators Share Whether Global All Stars Will Get A Second Season

World of Wonder’s Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato have addressed whether spin-off series Global All Stars will get a second season…

World of Wonder founders Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato have addressed the future of RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars. The inaugural season of Global All Stars premiered last summer featuring 12 different drag stars from international franchises compete Ruturn to compete for the title of “Queen of the Mothertucking World,” a grand prize of $200,000 and a spot in the “International Pavilion at the Drag Race Hall of Fame.”

The line-up included: Alyssa Edwards (US), Athena Sorgelikis (Belgium), Eva Le Queen (Philippines), Gala Varo (Mexico), Kitty Scott-Claus (UK), Kween Kong (Down Under), Miranda Lebrão (Brazil), Nehellenia (Italy), Pythia (Canada), Soa de Muse (France), Tessa Testicle (Germany) and Vanity Vain (Sweden).

Despite the exciting premise and the return of fan-favourites from across the globe, RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars received mixed reviews from fans. Many viewers felt that the native English-speaking queens had an advantage in the acting and comedy-based challenges, with most of the episodes being won by English-speaking queens. By the end of the season, three of the top four queens were from predominately English-speaking countries, and Alyssa Edwards was ultimately crowned the first ever Global All Stars winner.

The season was so controversial that some fans even called for it to not return.

While we still haven’t received an official renewal announcement for Global All Stars season two, Bailey and Barbato recently shared their thoughts on whether the international season will make a comeback.

Bailey and Barbato have addressed the future of the show, and confirmed that despite mixed reviews, they are “hopeful” about Global All Stars coming back for a second season and said that they are “hopeful” about Global All Stars coming back for a second season.

Speaking to The Playlist, Barbato said: “I mean, hopefully, if our partners don’t do it, I think we might have to do it.

“Yeah. I know that launching Drag Race Phillippines: Slaysian Royale, which is kind of a bit of Vs. [the World], a little bit of All Stars in a new sort of version. So, a specific answer, I don’t know the answer to the question, but there are other versions, and of course, there’s Slaycation season two, which just filmed.”

The recently announced Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale series will see an all-Asian cast of queens from across the Drag Race universe unite for a “Vs. the World”-style contest.

Elsewhere in their conversation with The Playlist, Bailey confirmed that US president Donald Trump’s attacks on the LGBTQ+ community will not lead to less Drag Race content being pumped out.

“It’s not as if the audience suddenly wants to watch something else,” Bailey said. “The rhetoric may be one thing, and there may be all these sorts of pulling back of initiatives, but to me, I firmly believe that more than ever, people want Drag Race, they want drag… steps forward, steps back. But overall, it does keep moving forward, the overall trajectory.”
