RuPaul's Drag Race Season 17 Episode 6 RECAP: Let's Get Sea Sickening Ball

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17 Episode 6 RECAP: Let’s Get Sea Sickening Ball

The remaining queens make runway looks from sea trash in another sewing challenge. Actress and model Hunter Schaffer and stylist Law Roach are guest judges…

Nobody went home last week after the RDR Live challenge certified some as comedy queens and others as live comedy flops. Suzie Toot took the top spot after she brought the best of the best to her weekend update character but Lydia B Kollins and Arrietty both found themselves at the bottom. After Arrietty’s second lip sync in a row, she was saved when the lever she chose sent Michelle right into the dunk tank. This week the queens take on another sewing challenge when Ru throws a ball! Let’s get into it.

This week’s episode begins in the werk room following last week’s lip sync. Arrietty is feeling so good about staying in the competition. Lydia is feeling kind of bummed that her lip sync win was kind of for nothing and in confessionals Kori says it would have felt better if some competition went home. The queens congratulate Suzie on her second win. Carried on from last week’s Untucked, some of the other queens feel Suzie’s looks aren’t enough to get her to the end. With all of the levers pulled, there are no more chances to stay in the competition after a lip sync loss.

It’s a new day in the werk room and Suzie is feeling like there’s a target on her back but she doesn’t hate the attention. It’s week six and there are still 12 queens in the room, which means someone will be going home every week. Ru interrupts and asks the queens if they’re ready for an exam but first, they need to get into some quick “Glory Hole” drag. With their pussycat wigs and knee pads strapped on they meet Norvina, the president of Anastasia Beverly Hills. In two teams they’ll have to transport tubes of Anastasia lipsticks from one side of the room into their respective glory holes and to a display stand. The orange team wins and each of them has won a $500 cash tip. Ru then tells the queens they’ll need to take fashion inspiration from the deep blue sea, because they’ll be throwing a sea sickening ball. First category is “Bathing Beauties”, second is “Sea Creature Couture”, and the third is “Sea Sickening Eleganza” where they’ll have to upcycle common sea trash into sickening looks to walk the runway.

They scavenge materials, and Lexi upcycles often with her looks, so she’s feeling really excited for this challenge. Jewels isn’t trusting anybody with her materials after the Onya-fiasco of the last fashion challenge. Sam and Lexi have both grabbed tarps, which has Lexi worried they’re making the same thing (they aren’t). Ru enters and talks to the queens in small groups to get some ideas about where they’re going with their looks. Ideas are shared, shade is thrown, and advice is given before Ru leaves, he tells the queens that this week’s guest judge is Euphoria’s Hunter Schaffer, and the queens get back to constructing their looks.

Acacia is feeling less nervous seeing everybody’s looks come together because according to her they’re all ugly. Tragedy strikes when someone gets brown spray paint all over Lexi’s blue tarp she painted. Through tears she tries to come up with a solution before going back into the werk room to ask who ruined her outfit. The other queens think she’s joking before heading back out to fix it. Onya reveals that she and Arrietty accidentally spray painted on top of it after thinking it was a tarp that was laid out for spray painting and not her look. The other queens encourage Onya to apologize and explain but she doesn’t think it’s the right time. Outside, Arrietty apologizes and Lexi figures out the brown was from Onya since her brown outfit was out there drying. Lexi goes back in to confront her and Spray Paint-Gate is ON, and the other queens are…uncomfortable as the fight between the two escalates.

It’s elimination day and the tension in the room is a lot. Some of the other queens are hoping Onya and Lexi kiss and make up, but it is a competition, so maybe it’ll work in their favours if they don’t. Lexi asks Onya and Arrietty to have a chat and apologizes and says she’s not going to hate either of them over literal garbage. Everyone apologizes and all is good in the queendom. Most of the queens are feeling good about the garments they made for the runway. Sam, Lexi, and Kori privately talk about the looks they think may land in the bottom. Out on the runway, Ru introduces this week’s panel of judges Michelle, Law Roach, and this week’s extra special guest judge Hunter Schaffer.

RuPaul's Drag Race Season 17 Episode 6 RECAP: Let's Get Sea Sickening Ball

The Let’s Get Sea Sickening Ball is on! The first category is “Bathing Beauties” and the queens strut in their cutest, coolest, and most sickening bathing suits. The second category is “Sea Creature Couture” and the queens walk in looks inspired by different sea life. The final category is “Sea Sickening Eleganza” which is where we get to see all of the looks, they’ve created out of the trash, and most of the looks are surprisingly good and polished. Following the runway, Ru calls Jewels, Lydia, Onya, Suzie, Kori, and Lexi forward and tells them they are all safe for the week.

Critiques start with Crystal. Michelle tells her she’s done with Barbie cosplay but liked her fringe reveal. Law appreciated her McQueen reference with her pufferfish look. Hunter compliments her handmade look and tells Sam Star her bathing beauties look was so good. Michelle liked her second look and Law goes on a hilarious tangent about her trash ball gown but gives her kudos. Law also tells Arrietty her bathing beauties look was gorgeous and Hunter loved her Lionfish look. Michelle tells her that her final look is one of her favourites of the night. Michelle liked how campy Acacia’s bathing beauty look was but struggled with the fit, Hunter also gave her some critiques on her second look. Law calls her final look “amateur.” The judges think Hormona played it really safe and all of the looks go together, but she could have gone further with it. Finally, Hunter tells Lana she could have done more with her first look and Michelle tells her that her final look needed some work. Law gives her some tough advice about standing in her confidence and bringing all of it to the runway.

After deliberations, Ru announces that the winner of this week’s challenge is Arreitty, coming back swinging from her bottom spot last week. Sam and Crystal follow right behind her in second and third place. The final safe queen of the week is Acacia Forgot. This leaves Hormona and Lana both up for elimination. The two bottom queens lip sync for their lives to get him back! By Olivia Rodrigo. Lana takes a grittier approach to the performance and showcases that confidence Law was begging for in critiques while Hormona goes cute with a little attitude. After the lip sync, Ru decides Lana will stay in the competition, which means that it’s Hormona Lisa’s time to go (for real this time).

Next week on RuPaul’s Drag RaceIt’s time for Snatch Game and comedy queen Quinta Brunson is a guest judge.
