The queens face off in the series first ever “Reading Battle.” Comedian Samantha Bee is a guest judge…
Last week we watched as the queens held an AI-inspired ball. They each presented three looks including one they made from scratch in the werk room. Alexis Mateo impressed the judges with all three of her looks which put her in the top spot of the week. She was then tasked with giving the golden beaver to one of the bottom queens. After pleading their case backstage, Alexis passed the beaver to Kennedy Davenport. This left Tynomi and Cheryl to lip sync for their lives which resulted in Tynomi Banks becoming the first Canadian queen to be sent home from the competition. This week the queens put their Comedy hats on for the first ever reading battle. Let’s get into it.
This week’s episode begins in the werk room following Tynomi’s elimination. Lemon is heartbroken over one of her Canadian sisters going home and Fierce is feeling bad that their last conversation was not a friendly one. Over on the couches the queens revel in surviving the ball and congratulate Cheryl on her lip sync win. A little shade is thrown and Alexis tells the queens her thought process behind choosing Kennedy to give the golden beaver to. Feircalicious apologizes to Lemon for her behaviour last week and vows that she’ll change her attitude next time she doesn’t get the critiques.
It’s a new day in the werk room and the queens are feeling ready to take on the new week. At the red table Fierce congratulates Alexis on her big win. All of the queens talk about the Canadian queens dwindling and Lemon feels like she needs to represent the whole country. Ru interrupts with a video message and Brad enters the work room in a sequin top. He tells the queens that they’ll have to put their mouths to the test with a new game show for this week’s mini challenge. After 15 minutes of getting into quick drag the queens are ready to play “Sync or Swim”. The queens will have to lip sync with a powerful wind machine which throws streamers, balloons, tinsel, and even blow up dolls at them while they’re lip syncing. The winner of the mini challenge is Miss Fiercalicious! She’s so excited to have finally won something. For this week’s maxi challenge the queens will take part in a reading battle. They’ll pair up and roast each other and the winner of each pair will earn a top spot this week. For winning the mini challenge Fierce picks Lemon as her battle, Eureka pairs up with Cheryl, and Alexis and Kennedy are left to partner together.
The queens quickly get to work writing their material. Since they’ll be roasting each other, the queens get in different pairs to write their jokes. After they’re finished writing they head out to the main stage to workshop their material with Brad and this week’s guest, comedian Samantha Bee. Some of the queens have great starting material and both Brad and Samantha help them tap into their inner comedians to get the best jokes possible. Other queens start rocky but get there in the end.
It’s elimination day and in front of the mirrors the queens ask each other where they get their thick skin from. Each of them share personal stories about their childhoods and even their sobriety journeys. They talk about the difference between a real read and one that comes from a place of hatred. Cheryl tells the group Lemon has been the only friend she’s had that’s constantly checked in on her after U.K vs The World. Out on the main stage Brooke introduces this week’s panel of judges, Brad, and this week’s extra special guests Samantha Bee and Sarain Fox.
The reading battles begin with Miss Fiercalicious vs Lemon. These queens spar really well, they’re both shady, but Lemon is quicker off the cuff. The judges say their shared history really played up their battle and they’re glad Lemon was able to clap back but Fierce got nervous and speedy which did show. Brad said he was nervous with Lemon’s material but he was so proud of her jokes landing and how hysterical her clap backs were. The winner of the first reading battle is Lemon who has secured a spot in the top this week.
The next battle is Eureka vs Cheyrl. Their battling is a little more even with both of them clapping back but a few of Eureka’s jokes fell a little flat. Samantha thought the two of them had a nice flow to it and she didn’t want them to stop. Brad liked the banter which Sarain agreed with. All of the judges thought they hit a nice groove but Cheryl was a bit quicker with her delivery, so she is named the winner of the challenge, putting Eureka in the bottom. It’s time for the final battle between Kennedy and Alexis. Kennedy starts it off strong but Alexis gets right back at her and they have a lot of fun with their exchanges which really allows the audience to relax and get into it with them. There are even some visual gags that really get the audience and judges laughing. Brad tells Kennedy she was hilarious and loved that there was something slightly unhinged throughout it. Samantha praises her for blossoming on the stage and Sarain tells her that her comedic timing was perfect. Brooke tells them she could tell they were friends and felt like she was backstage in a green room getting ready for a drag show. The judges tell Alexis that she came prepared and her jokes were bang on. Kennedy wins the final battle and automatically secured a place in the top for the week.
Lemon, Cheryl, and Kennedy are the top three but there can only be one winner and Kennedy takes the title for the week. As the losers of their battles, Fierce, Eureka, and Alexis are all up for elimination but Kennedy can save one of them from lip syncing with the golden beaver. Backstage the queens gather on the teal couches and congratulate Kennedy on her second win. The bottom queens get down to pleading their case and Fierce says she doesn’t deserve the beaver since she already had it once, so she should have to lip sync tonight. The queens commend her on her growth from last week. Alexis thinks she did a sickening job at holding her own during the lip sync challenge. Eureka gets tearful talking about how hard her sobriety journey has been and the other queens talk her down and tell her she’s an incredible performer just the way she is.
Back out on the main stage Kennedy reveals that the queen she has chosen to give the golden beaver to is…Alexis! This means that unfortunately Miss Fiercalicious and Eureka are the bottom two queens of the week and they’ll have to lip sync for their lives to Hush Hush by The Pussycat Dolls. Both queens give equally passionate performances while commanding their sides of the stage. After a deliberation with the judges Brooke reveals the queen going home this week is Eureka, meaning Miss Fiercalicious will live to slay another day.
Next week on Canada vs the World: The final five hit the stage with Snatch Game: The Rusical which has some of the queens feuding. Singer Alessia Cara is a guest judge.
