The queens prepare looks from the runway from scratch for the iconic ball challenge. Designer Kirk Pickersgill is a guest judge…
Last week our international queens took on their first improv challenge when they went head to head with guest judge Lisa Rinna in The Mole. While some queens soared and impressed the judges, others played the challenge a little one-note. After a nature-inspired runway Brooke and the other judges announce Kennedy Davenport as the winner of the week’s challenge and Miss Fiercalicious, Tynomi Banks, and Le Fil as the week’s bottoms. Kennedy chose to give the golden beaver to Fierce which meant Tynomi and Le Fil were left to lip sync for their lives. After a passionate performance it was Le Fil who was asked to sashay away. This week the queens get creative with a design challenge. Let’s get into it.
This week’s episode begins in the werk room following Le Fil’s elimination. The queens gather around the mirror to read Le Fil’s goodbye message. After a heartfelt send off they move over to the couches and congratulate Tynomi on her lip sync win. She says she feels at home and joy when she’s on the stage, and she knows she needs to bring that same joy to the challenges. Eureka asks Kennedy why she picked Fierce for the golden beaver and Kennedy walks everyone through her very logical thought process.
It’s a new day in the werk room and all of the queens are feeling rested and prepared to take on this week’s challenge. Around the red table the queens applaud Kennedy for her win and Fierce thanks Kennedy once again for saving her with the golden beaver. She then goes on a little bit of a rant over Traci’s critiques and Lemon explains what “petulant” means. You learn something new everyday. Cheryl asks who’s going to get messy with the beaver first and they get interrupted by a video message from Ru about getting creative. Fiercalicious’s arch nemesis Traci enters the room to deliver this week’s challenges. For the mini challenge the queens will be auditioning for a role in the new animated film Draggy. They suit up in motion-capture leotards and quick drag and meet Traci out on set. The queens are introduced to their scene partner, a tennis ball on a fishing line. They all have their own time to make their way through the script and after everyone has had a turn Traci announces the winner of this week’s mini challenge is Alexis Mateo!
Traci then tells the queens that for this week’s main challenge they will be having a ball! The Glamorous Drag Queen Ball Challenge to be exact. The categories have all been generated using the show’s AI tool Chat She-PT. For the first category the queens will have to serve AI Generated Drag realness. The second category “The Robots Have Taken Over” they’ll have to bring body-ody-ody to the runway. And for the third category “Supermodels of the New World”, where they’ll have to create a high fashion look from scratch using materials in the werk room.
The queens get right down to it coming up with a plan for their final look. Lemon voices that she’s feeling a little nervous because she was in the bottom for a sewing challenge and a few of the other queens reveal they were also in the bottom in their seasons. In Alexis’s season she had three balls and was in the bottom all three times, but everybody seems to be on a pretty even playing field this time around. Tynomi is feeling excited to push herself with this challenge and Cheryl finds out her one-sleeve sleek gown is the same silhouette Tynomi is going for. A few of the queens have taken sewing classes since their original seasons, so they’re feeling a little better prepared for the challenge except Kennedy, who hasn’t touched a sewing machine was on season 7. Fiercalicous is aiming high with a mermaid gown complete with structured boning which Lemon thinks will be fierce but doesn’t know if she has the skill to pull it off in the time they have.
Traci re-emerges in the werk room with this week’s extra special guest judge, fashion visionary Kirk Pickersgill to check in on what the queens have come up with. They chat in pairs and tell Kirk about what they have planned and pick his brain for some design tips. The queens get back to work constructing their garments. Cheryl helps Tynomi pick a fabric and Fierce and Eureka reveal they have an alliance. Kennedy struggles with her sewing machine and Alexis helps her thread her needle. Time is ticking and everyone is struggling to finish their outfits.
It’s elimination day and all of the queens prepare for the runway while putting the finished looks on their runway. In front of the mirror they all talk about the future of drag and how excited they are for the world of drag to explode even more than it already has. Out on the main stage Brooke makes her grand entrance and introduces this week’s panel of judges Traci, Brad and this week’s extra special guest judge Kirk Pickersgill. The ball kicks off with the first category “AI Generated Queens” and the girls serve in their digitally-inspired looks. The second category “The Robots Have Taken Over” and all of the queens wow the judges with their futuristic robot outfits. Finally in the third category the queens show off their handmade “Supermodel of the New World”.
Following the runway Brooke tells Eureka she is safe. The rest of the queens represent the tops and bottoms of the week. Critiques start with Tynomi and Brooke starts by telling her it’s so nice to see her having fun on the runway. Traci tells her that her first look was giving too much beach-tee and her second look felt unfinished to Brad. Brooke tells her that her third look is well sewn but her draping hides her silhouette. Next, Brad tells Alexis she had a great night. All three of her looks were different and so well done for the different categories including her ambitious handmade outfit. Brad tells Kennedy he loved her fun first look but Brooke and Traci tell her she didn’t really read AI and her second look was a little too “Comic Con” and the judges don’t see anything futuristic about her third look either. Next, Brooke tells Lemon her AI look was unhinged in the best way possible and the other judges agree. Traci tells her that her mirrored robot look had her on the floor, Brooke tells her that her third look is well made but it’s not quite there. Traci tells Fierce her first look was fantastic and Brad agrees. Brooke says she’s always so detail oriented which stood out in the second category. Her boned dress is commended by the judges for the effort she’s put into it. Finally, Traci loves Cheryl’s AI look, but her robot look didn’t pop out from the crowd and her supermodel of the new world look is giving a little too much popstar from the 2000s. Based on the critiques the judges announce Alexis Mateo as the winner of this week’s maxi challenge. Lemon and Feircalious are both safe, meaning Tynomi, Kennedy, and Cheryl are all in the bottom this week and must plead their case to Alexis on why they deserve the golden beaver.
Backstage the queens give a round of applause to Alexis. Fiercalicious says she’s disappointed that she wasn’t named the best of the week. After taking up time from the bottom queens Alexis interrupts and tells the queens she wants to hear from the bottom queens about why they think they deserve to be given a lifeline. Tynomi and Fiercalicious get into another argument over a question. Back on the main stage Alexis reveals that she has chosen to give the golden beaver to Kennedy Davenport. This means Tynomi Banks and Cheryl are officially the bottom two queens. The two lip sync for their lives to What The Hell by Avril Lavigne. Both queens give everything they’ve got into the lip sync including stunts and splits but in the end it’s Cheryl who gets a second chance. This means it’s unfortunately the end of the competition for Tynomi Banks as she becomes the first Canadian queen to leave this season.
Next week on Canada vs the World: the queens face off in the first ever Reading Battles and comedian Samantha Bee is a guest.
