RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 8 Episode 7 Recap: Forensic Queens

The remaining six queens use their improv skills to solve a case in an acting challenge, tensions rise in the werk room, and actress Javicia Leslie is a guest judge…

Last week the queens staged the world premiere of JOAN: the Unauthorized Rusical all about the iconic Joan Crawford and all of her career eras. After the rusical we were treated to a special runway featuring show stopping Grace Jones-inspired lewks and the top queen of the week was Kandy Muse who won her lip sync against season 14’s Angeria Paris VanMichaels. Kahanna Montrese and Jaymes Mansfeild found themselves in the bottom and Kandy chose to eliminate Jaymes from the competition. This week the remaining queens test out their improv skills with an acting challenge and another lip sync assassin from seasons past will be revealed. Let’s get into it.

This week’s episode begins in the werk room following Jaymes’s elimination from the competition. Kandy is feeling good after winning her first challenge. All of the queens read the message Jaymes left behind before heading over to the couches to count the votes. All of the queens also voted for Jaymes to go home. Some of the queens explained that they voted for Kahanna to stay since she has a win under her belt and Jaymes didn’t. Everybody has a challenge win except for LaLa and Alexis, but it’s a new week and a new opportunity to rise to the top.

It’s a new day in the werk room and the remaining queens feel like the room is feeling a little more empty than usual. Ru interrupts to let the queens know that for this week’s maxi challenge the queens will have to use their charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent to improv their way through the new ru crime series “Forensic Queens”. They’ll play detectives, suspects, and eye-witnesses. The queens will get to pick their own parts but they’ll act without a script since they’ll need to bring the funny on the spot. They gather over on the couches to read through the roles. Most of the queens are flexible with the roles they want but Kahanna is already feeling nervous about another acting challenge. LaLa and Alexis both want the security guard part but Alexis gives it to LaLa. Unfortunately for Alexis, Kandy also wants her backup role and it creates some tension in the werk room. Kandy is unwilling to budge and Alexis decides to be the bigger person and take the leftover role. Jimbo tries to console her and Kandy cannot deal with the dramatics. Alexis is in tears over on the couches and she leaves the werk room to get some air. She returns and the werk room is divided while the queens work on their characters. Kahanna interrupts to let the other queens know the energy isn’t working for her and she decides to throw the towel in before she lands in the bottom again. As Jessica Wild says “this is a SHE-mergency”. Ru re-enters the werk room ON HER BREAK because they all need to chat. Ru encourages the queens to not let their feelings derail the opportunity of competing with the other queens. Kahanna decides to stay and not let her emotions sabotage her experience.

Now that everyone can focus on the task at hand, they get down to business working on their own characters and helping each other. Jimbo gives some comedy advice to Kahanna, which is basically to just have fun, which she really appreciates. As the queens get ready they’re also still figuring out who their characters are. Alexis extends an olive branch to Kandy which she accepts and vows to have a good time together in the challenge. Forensic Queens kicks off and all of the queens do an amazing job in their scenes. It will be another hard week for the judges to pick the tops and bottoms.

It’s elimination day and as the queens get ready for the runway they chat about how much fun they had filming the show together. Jimbo chats with Kahanna about whether she was actually going to leave (she was), but Jimbo’s advice really helped her in the challenge and she feels really good about her performance. Kandy and Alexis talk about how glad they are to bury their hatchet from earlier in the day. Everybody is glad that Ru stepped in to set them straight but they talk about how wild it is that after tonight there will only be five of them left.

Out on the main stage Ru introduces this week’s panel of judges, Michelle, Carson, and this week’s extra special guest actress Javicia Leslie. On the runway the category is “Miss Fill in the Blank” and the queens give their best pageant queen looks paired with the punniest pageant titles you could possibly think of.

Following the runway, the critiques begin with Jessica Wild. Carson loves her runway and Michelle tells her that her performance was equal parts insane and funny. The judges tell Kahanna her runway was anything BUT tired. Michelle says her performance started really rocky but somewhere in the middle she started having fun and it really showed. Carson tells LaLa that her character was created so beautifully and the rest of the judges agree that it was basically her show. She showed up and showed out. Michelle tells Kandy she was a bit disappointed that her character was so similar to her own persona, but Ru didn’t mind that at all. All of the judges commend Jimbo for her commitment to the character both on screen and on the runway. Finally, Michelle tells Alexis that while she always comes prepared, her character was a bit of a miss, but her runway was a home run. Based on the judges critiques, LaLa Ri is announced as the top all star of the week. Unfortunately Alexis and Kahanna are both in the bottom this week.

Backstage, all of the queens cast their votes in the ladies room and LaLa makes her final decision before heading back out to the main stage. LaLa is ready to lip sync and this week’s lip sync assassin is revealed to be… season 14’s Jorgeous! The two lip sync to “About Damn Time” by Lizzo. Both queens leave it all on the stage but Ru announces LaLa is the winner of the lip sync. But as we know, with great power comes great responsibility. The queen LaLa has chosen to eliminate this week is Kahanna. She’ll be automatically entered in the Fame Game, and she’ll have another chance to win.

Next week on All Stars: Alexis tries to score a win, the queens try to make past queen’s iconic lewks their own in a sewing challenge, there’s a few special guests in the werk room, and another lip sync assassin is ruvealed.
