The music video for “Ease My Mind” was just released and actor Charlie Carver plays Platt’s love interest…
Broadway star Ben Platt is opening up about his sexuality and getting candid about his love life ahead of the release of his debut solo album, Sing To Me Instead.
In a new interview with People, the 25-year-old Tony Award winner (who captured hearts in The Book of Mormon and won the Tony Award for Best Actor for Dear Evan Hansen) says the songs on his first album represent his life and the men he has dated.
“If I was going to write about people I loved, I wasn’t going to pretend they weren’t men just because I hadn’t talked about that before,” Platt said. “I only wanted to take this leap if I was going to present every part of myself.”
“I’ve been out since I was 12 years old to my family and anyone in my life. I’ve never sort of hidden that or been ashamed by it. It’s just part of me.”
Pratt describes the album, which drops on March 29, as “a roller coaster of a relationship that is an amalgam of the ones I’ve had.”
Platt also dropped a new video for the track “Ease My Mind,” which was directed by Nick Lieberman. “Ease My Mind” is a gay love story that features Platt alongside openly gay actor Charlie Carver.
Asked about the video, he explains: “When we were conceptualizing this sort of loose narrative that we wanted to connect through the videos, there was not really any moment where we had to decide it should be about me and a man as opposed to anything else because it was just, ‘We’re going to represent what this was inspired by,’ which was this man that I was in love with. So it was really a no-brainer.”
