Here’s your first look at RuPaul and Raja on The Simpsons…
In addition to dominating reality television (Rupaul’s Drag Race, All Stars, Dancing Queen), it appears drag queens now have their synthetic crosshairs aimed at another genre: animation.
Less than a week ago, Netflix released the first trailer for Super Drags, an adult cartoon starring the voice talents of Ginger Minj, Willam, Trixie Mattel and Shangela. But that’s not all, kitty girls. There’s more. Drag queens will soon be sashaying their way to Springfield as guest stars on The Simpsons.
More astute fans of the animated series may recall news that RuPaull would be guest starring on The Simpsons back in May – only now is more tea being spilled. A few days ago, Mama Ru shared an image of her fabulous character, “Queen Chante”, on Instagram and fans predictably went awol. The image has accrued over 260,000 likes.
Ru isn’t the only queen getting the Springfield treatment. Season three winner Raja will also make an appearance in the episode, in a scene with Homer Simpson. “I’ll never forget crying my eyes out, as rain came pouring down on the sidewalk outside the recording studio. Tears of joy,” Raja wrote when posting her animated image to Instagram. “The Simpsons was a huge part of my childhood, being asked to be on an episode was surreal and mind blowing, to say the least.”
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, The Simpsons showrunner, Al Jean, let readers in on what fans can expect in the episode. “Most successful Tupperware sellers are drag queens,” says Jean. “Marge starts selling Tupperware, and her friend Julio convinces her to pose as a drag queen to make more money. They think she’s a guy playing a woman, which Marge kind of looks like a little. She’s really successful and then RuPaul is playing a character like himself. When [Marge] is going to go out and earn money, Homer says, ‘No wife of mine is ever going to work,’ is a bizarre thing that men used to say for some reason.’”
While this is far from Ru’s first TV guest appearance (she’s made cameos on 2 Broke Girls, The Muppets, The Comeback, Ugly Betty, and many others) it is her first guest spot in cartoon form. Keep up the good work, queen!
The episode premieres November 18 at 8PM. Glue down those lace-fronts!
