Pope Francis continues his penchant for messages of acceptance telling a gay man who was abused by a Chilean priest that God loves him just the way he is…
An openly gay man, who is a survivor of sexual abuse, said that Pope Francis told him “God made you like this and loves you like this.”
Juan Carlos Cruz reportedly spoke with Pope Francis a few weeks ago about the sexual abuse he suffered from a Chilean priest. Cruz told El País that his sexuality came up because some of the Latin American country’s bishops were trying to portray him as a pervert and claimed that he was lying about the abuse.
But Cruz mentioned Pope Francis said: “Juan Carlos, that you are gay does not matter. God made you like this and loves you like this and I don’t care. The pope loves you like this. You have to be happy with who you are.”
The comments are the most striking public acceptance about homosexuality ever made by a head of the Roman Catholic Church.
As noted in the Guardian‘s report Monday, Fernando Karadima—the 87-year-old priest who sexually abused Cruz—was found guilty by the Vatican back in 2011.
