Daniela Vega Will Be The First Openly Transgender Person To Present At The Oscars

The A Fantasic Woman star is making history…

Daniela Vega, the star of Sebastián Lelio’s critically-acclaimed film A Fantastic Woman, will make history as the first trans woman to present an award at the Oscars.

Vega had been in contention to become the first transgender actress nominated for an Academy Award herself, though in the end A Fantastic Woman scored only the nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

The film follows the story of a trans bar singer named Marina, played by Vega. She receives infuriating discrimination from doctors and police and contempt from her lover’s ex-wife when her boyfriend dies.

This year’s Oscars will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and will take place on March 4 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
