KitKat has announced an exciting new partnership with Friends of Ruby. The partnership includes financial support of the beloved Toronto LGBTQI2S organization’s much-needed mental health programs and the release of a limited-edition KitKat bar. Of course, the news comes just in time to help celebrate ‘Chosen Family Day’ on February 22 — a day to acknowledge important relationships and chosen support systems within the community.

KitKat’s one-of-a-kind ruby chocolate bars will feature special packaging designed by the Friends of Ruby team and will be available from February 11 to 28 at the KitKat Chocolatory store at Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto. All proceeds from every sale will be donated to Friends of Ruby.

“The support system that is created through Chosen Families fosters an environment that promotes kinship, belonging and celebrates layered identities,” said Carol Osler, executive director at Friends of Ruby. “Friends of Ruby facilitates spaces for LGBTQI2S youth to express themselves and find community. We are thrilled to collaborate with KitKat Chocolatory to reiterate the value and need of Chosen Families.”

The limited-edition chocolate bars are the first of many initiatives between KitKat and Friends of Ruby as they kick off a two year partnership. Additional special events and initiatives are being planned for Pride in June and LGBTQ History Month in October to help gain reach and raise awareness for the community and organization.

“At KitKat, we are committed to encouraging individuality and self-expression,” said Mark Cecchetto, President, Confectionery, Nestlé Canada. “We are proud to be partnering with Friends of Ruby to celebrate the LGBTQI2S community and uplift all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and two-spirit young people to feel empowered in their identities.”

You can learn more about the important work that Friends of Ruby does at friendsofruby.ca and show a little support by purchasing a one-of-a-kind KitKat bar at the KitKat Chocolatory at Yorkdale mall in Toronto between Friday, February 11 and Monday, February 28, 2022.
