“I am a dyke! Get it right. I don’t do that alphabet, LGBTQ thing”…
Orange is the New Black‘s Lea DeLaria, does not want to be associated with the LGBTQ acronym. The actress and stand-up comic made the statement at the exclusive Hudson River Park Gala.
Former Tonight Show host, Jay Leno, hosted the gala where he referred to DeLaria as a “lesbian woman” according to a Page Six report.
‘You don’t have to say “lesbian woman”. It’s implied,’ she yelled out from the audience.
Later on Leno called her a lesbian again.
DeLaria shouted out, saying: “I am not a lesbian! I am a dyke! Get it right. I don’t do that alphabet, LGBTQ thing. By the time you get to all of those letters, the parade is over!”
DeLaria was auctioning off an chance to party on a yacht with her to raise funds for charity.
This isn’t the first time DeLaria has spoken out again using the LGBTQ acronyms.
In a previous interview she said “Part of me believes that this inclusivity of calling us the LGBTQQTY-whatever-LMNOP tends to stress our differences, and that’s why I refuse to do it. I say queer. Queer is everybody,” she said.
“This is the biggest issue we have in the queer community to date and will continue to be the biggest issue until we learn to accept our differences, and that’s the issue.”
