Russell Tovey Kisses and Tells About His Favourite Liplock To Andy Cohen

During the press tour for his new film Plainclothes, the actor revealed the on-screen kiss he enjoyed the most…

British actor Russell Tovey has kissed a lot of people, but on Watch What Happens Live he revealed to Andy Cohen his favourite kissing partner.

While promoting his upcoming seductive queer thriller Plainclothes, with co-star Tom Blyth, an audience member asked Tovey who his favourite onstage or on-screen kiss was.

“You and Tom do pretty well,” Cohen says, asking him to pick someone besides Blyth. Before Tovey could answer Cohen did ask if Blyth was a good kisser.

“It’s beautiful. Very soft lips,” Tovey shared, making his co-star chuckle.

Tovey then revealed that while he has kissed a lot of very attractive individuals of all genders that Jonathan Groff was his pick.

“I quite enjoyed kissing Jonathan Groff in Looking,” he shared. “We did a lot of kissing in Looking and we had a very nice time on that.”

Tovey starred in both seasons of the HBO series, including the TV film. The role was his first major introduction to American audiences. The actor played Kevin Matheson, Patrick’s (Groff) handsome boss at a video game company. Throughout season one the pair flirt with each other even though they are both in relationships. They end up exploring their attraction, which includes a very hot sex scene at the end of the season. In season two, Kevin becomes Patrick’s main love interest.

It’s no surprise Tovey selected Groff. The actor constantly gushes about the show and told GLAAD in 2024 that he would want to do Looking again.

What is Plainclothes about?

Tovey was on Watch What Happens Live to promote his new thriller Plainclothes coming out September 26 in Canada.

The film, set in 1990s Syracuse, follows undercover officer Lucas (Blyth). Lucas is assigned to seduce gay men cruising in bathrooms in order to entrap and arrest them. During one of his undercover assignments he becomes drawn to a man named Andrew (Tovey). As their secret connection evolves, Lucas faces tension and anxiety as he finds himself in a dilemma between duty and desire.

The film, directed and written by Carmen Emmi, premiered at Sundance back in January. It won the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for ensemble cast.
