From new series to the entire television catalogue of certain series, August will have you either waiting weekly in anticipation for new episodes or have you binge watching your favourites.
Comedies with queer themes and some of your favourite LGBTQ+ actors will dominate August from the new season of the Apple TV+ series Platonic to the final season of Upload on Prime Video or CBC Gem’s FreeUp! Emancipation Day 2025: Jokes, Jokes, Jokes.
It’s still reality TV season with the premiere of I Kissed a Boy season 2 on Crave and Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale on WOW Presents Plus.
We might also learn the truth of the Jussie Smollett drama and the hoax that might actually be true?

APPLE TV+
August 6 – PLATONIC
The critically acclaimed half-hour comedy starring and executive produced by Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne is back. The season picks up with everyone’s favourite pair of best friends (Rogen and Byrne) as they contend with new midlife hurdles, including work, weddings and partners in crises. Canada’s Luke Macfarlane returns as Rose Byrne’s partner on the series. Season 2 will have a double episode premiere followed by one per week.
August 22 – INVASION
The series follows an alien invasion through different perspectives around the world. In season three, those perspectives collide for the first time, as main characters are brought together to work as a team on a critical mission to infiltrate the alien mothership. New relationships are formed, old relationships are challenged and even shattered, as an international cast of characters must become a team before it’s too late. The series streams weekly.

August 26 – LAST TANGO IN HALIFAX
All five seasons of this British series are coming to viewers all at once. Childhood sweethearts Alan (Derek Jacobi) and Celia (Anne Reid) are both widowed and in their 70s. The pair fall for each other all over again when they are reunited on the internet after nearly 60 years. Their relationship is a celebratory tale of the power of love at any age…but also a story about family and the baggage that comes with it. Celia’s respectable, head teacher daughter Caroline (Sarah Lancashire) is juggling bringing up two boys and dealing with her husband’s infidelity, while Alan’s rebellious, complicated middle-aged daughter Gillian (Nicola Walker) struggles to make a living on a beautiful but bleak farm.

August 1 – FREEUP! EMANCIPATION DAY 2025: JOKES, JOKES, JOKES
This eight-episode comedy series is a fresh take on marking Emancipation Day in Canada that centres truth, joy and resistance. Each digital short features one of Canada’s sharpest comics, including bisexual comedian Tamara Shevon, as they take the mic to share stories, observations and moments only they could deliver from family dynamics and historical absurdities to everyday truths.
August 8 – ABSOLUTELY CANADIAN: TRANS CANADA
In this deeply personal documentary, filmmaker Tys Burger travels across Canada to learn from other transgender people about how they create community, home and spaces to thrive.
CRAVE
August 6 – I KISSED A BOY
Dannii Minogue is back for season two of this gay dating show where she plays matchmaker for 10 gay men. There is no small talk, no wiping – it’s all about the first kiss. The question now is will it become true love? The series airs on E!Tuesday nights and next day on Crave.
AUGUST 21 – PEACEMAKER
Peacemaker is back for an eight-episode second season. The bisexual DC Comics vigilante superhero struggles to reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose. Episodes stream weekly.
AUGUST 28 – THE GOLDEN GIRLS
It’s your annual sign to rewatch the entire series of this show that is loved by so many 2SLGBTQ+ people. Two-time winner of Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, and one of the best television series of all-time, is dropping every season on Crave. Beatrice Arthur, Rue McClanahan, Betty White and Estelle Getty star as four South Florida middle-aged women sharing a house, their dreams and a whole lot of cheesecake. August 22 – THE TRUTH ABOUT JUSSIE SMOLLETT?
Described by the streamer as the “shocking true story of an allegedly fake story that some now say might just be a true story,” actor Jussie Smollett is about to tell his side. The 90-minute documentary will have interviews from police, lawyers, journalists, investigators who say there is new evidence about the case. From hoax to jail time to an overturned conviction the former Empire star took people on a wild journey.
August 28 – MY LIFE WITH THE WALTER BOYS
Jackie returns to Colorado and is determined to make amends with Alex and set boundaries with Cole while finding her place within the Walter family. She soon finds out fitting back in isn’t that easy. As Jackie gains acceptance in Silver Falls while trying to hold onto her Howard identity, she’s forced to make a choice that could destroy everything she’s worked to rebuild.

August 13 – Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale
Filipino drag pride and Asian drag excellence collide in the first ever Drag Race spinoff in Asian! 12 legendary Asian queens from eight franchises will compete for the inaugural crown and a spot in the Slaysian Hall of Fame. Among the queens is Canada’s Drag Race contestant Suki Doll.
