After three seasons of queer joy and love, Heartstopper is set to conclude in 2026…and fans are already emotional…
While audiences have to wait to bid farewell to Nick, Charlie and the Heartstopper gang, its cast has already said goodbye. The movie, which will conclude the series, wrapped after 35 days of shooting across the UK last week. Its cast and author have posted tributes to the show on social media as well as an update.
It was officially revealed the film will be titled Heartstopper Forever with a release date sometime in 2026. With the filming wrapped, the crew now has the task of editing the footage to create a perfect send off.
According to Netflix’s Tudum, the film will pick up after season three. In it, Nick (Kit Connor) prepares to leave for university, while Charlie (Joe Locke) finds a new independence at school. The pair will face the reality of a long-distance relationship, which begins to weigh on them.
“The movie will be an exploration of time, memory, love, pain, the changing of the seasons, endings and beginnings, and the core element of Heartstopper: the ordinary magic of our everyday lives,” Heartstopper author Alice Oseman told Tudum.
What are the cast, crew and fans saying?
The cast and Oseman were quick to post tributes on Instagram following the final day of shooting. Actor Joe Locke posted an image of him and Connor in his Instagram feed with the caption, “bye charlie x thankyou <3.”
Oseman posted an image of a heart carved into wood with the letters “N + C” in it. Her post not only thanked the cast and crew, but reflected on her evolution. “I’d never worked in a team in my career before working on the Heartstopper screen adaptation, and the Heartstopper shoots have shown me what magic can happen when so many creative minds come together,” she says. Heartstopper means the world to me, and it’s always been a little scary to put it into other people’s hands, but it’s been met with so much care and passion and dedication and love.”
Connor posted an Instagram Story of him and Locke simply reading, “Wrapped. Thanks for everything.”
Fans were quick to comment on Locke, Oseman and Netflix’s Instagram posts about the end. Dedicated watchers shared their excitement for the movie and their devastation that Charlie and Nick’s story is ending. Some posted tearful emojis saying they were “sobbing” or “crying.” Other fans thanked Connor, Locke and the production team for bringing the beloved characters to life or helping to bring queer joy to the world.
While the wrap announcement has people emotional, it’s great preparation for the feelings yet to come. Until then we just have to sit back, wait and maybe rewatch the series.
