What’s Queer From The 2025 Canadian Media Upfronts

The major Canadian networks and streamers released a list of the new series and TV movies coming to our screens for the 2025/2026 season…

If you’ve noticed an increase in celebrities roaming the city, it’s because the major Canadian media companies rolled out the red carpets to celebrate their upcoming programming slate for the 2025/2026 season.

Known in the media industry as “upfronts,” the event is when networks and streamers highlight new shows to advertisers and media buyers. Bell Media, Rogers, Corus Entertainment and CBC all revealed their new and returning scripted and unscripted content with some of it being pretty queer.

We took a look through all the newly announced Canadian shows that showcase 2SLGBTQI+ storylines or your favourite stars and personalities. Full disclosure we may have missed a few as some of the synopses don’t reveal much and/or full casts have yet to be announced.

BELL MEDIA

A Lifetime in Photobooths
A documentary about a tenacious drag king who fights to protect analogue photobooths. Over the years photobooths have become sanctuaries for self-expression and queer identity, but are becoming a casualty of the modern digital world.

Heated Rivalry
This six episode steamy romance is based on Rachel Reid’s best-selling novel by the same name, which is set in the hockey world. Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) are two of the biggest stars in Major League Hockey, bound by ambition, rivalry, and a magnetic pull neither of them fully understands. What begins as a secret fling between two fresh faced rookies evolves into a years-long journey of love, denial, and self-discovery. Over the next eight years, as they chase glory on the ice, they struggle to navigate their feelings for each other. Torn between the sport they live for and the love they can’t ignore, Shane and Ilya must decide if there’s room in their fiercely competitive world for something as fragile – and powerful – as real love.

Sigil
We’re not quite sure what the exact plot is, but what we do know from Bell Media’s press release is that this is an eight-part fantasy horror series blending live action and animation from the fabulous Devery Jacobs as well as Academy Award nominee Chris Lavis.

Slo Pitch
From Elliott Page’s Pageboy Productions and Shaftesbury, comes a story that has beer, baseball and lesbians. The 10 episode comedy follows a queer underdog slo pitch team, who chase their dreams of making it to the beer league championships.

And, finally…
Bell Media has also renewed Canada’s Drag Race for a sixth season and Slaycation for a second. There was no word on Canada’s Drag Race: Canada Vs. The World.

ROGERS

Small Town Escapes with Colin & Justin
Your favourite design duo is back! Five years ago, Colin and Justin moved from the big city to a small town in Nova Scotia and now they’re making dreams come true for homebuyers looking to do the same.

CBC

The Assembly
Based on the French series Les Rencontres du Papotin, Canada’s most popular celebrities and public figures face a group of 30 atypical interviewers, all on the autism spectrum. One of those guests is beloved Canadian entertainer Jann Arden.
