“I’m Gay! I’m Gay!” Modern Family Star Aubrey Anderson-Emmons Quotes Herself In A Coming Out Post

The actress, who played gay couple Mitch and Cam’s adopted daughter for nine seasons, has revealed her truth to the world…

In what will probably go down as one of the most iconic celebrity coming out announcements on social media, Modern Family star Aubrey Anderson-Emmons has shared that she is bisexual.

The 18-year-old, who played gay couple Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cam’s (Eric Stonestreet) daughter Lily for nine seasons, took to Instagram to make her coming out announcement. In the video, the actress lip syncs a scene from the episode titled The Future Dunphys, in which she quotes her younger self.

In the episode, Lily seemingly confuses sexuality and nationality prompting her fathers and Gloria (Sofía Vergara) to take her to a Vietnamese restaurant to educate her about her home country. It is in this scene, using dialogue between her and Gloria, that Anderson-Emmons recreates. “You are Vietnamese,” Gloria says to which Lily responds “No I’m not! I’m Gay! I’m Gay!”

Overtop the Instagram video, the actress wrote “People keep joking so much about me being gay when I literally am (I’m Bi).” The video was accompanied by the caption “Happy Pride Month to all and to all a goodnight.”

While up for about 24 hours, as of publication, supportive comments have poured in from her mother and Trisha Paytas who just said “Queen!!!” Another user with the handle @IDontKnowDoYouuu said “Omggg Cam and Mitch would be so happy!”

Using the clip shouldn’t come as a surprise as it has had a resurgence on social media, which Entertainment Tonight asked Anderson-Emmons about in a recent interview. The actress said the scene is so popular that she will get at least one comment, no matter what she posts online, reading “I hate Vietnam!” She also shared how she has been re-watching the show for the first time, meaning the scene was likely fresh in her mind.

After being featured in 200 episodes of the Emmy Award and GLAAD Media Award winning series, and becoming the youngest person to receive a Screen Actors Guild Award for being part of the show’s ensemble, the California born actress took a break from acting when the series wrapped in 2020.

Now she is re-emerging as an indie-pop star under the name Frances Anderson. The singer released the track Telephones and Traffic in May with new music coming out later this month.

You can stream Modern Family on Disney+ in Canada and listen to Aubrey Anderson-Emmons/Frances Anderson on Spotify.
