Priyanka To Channel Princess Diana In A New Stage Role

The queen will star in the world premiere of The Diana Mixtape this summer, sharing the role of Princess Di with other drag royalty…

Canada’s Drag Race winner Priyanka is going from queen to people’s princess in her new onstage role across the pond. The season one winner has joined the cast of the upcoming musical The Diana Mixtape in the role of Princess Diana replacing RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season four contestant Baby, who withdrew from the cast for personal reasons.

In a press release for the casting announcement Priyanka said, “Coming back to the UK has been on my bucket list since my sold-out tour earlier this year. I love my UK fans more than anything, they love my music so much and I can’t think of a better way to reunite with everyone than bringing Princess Diana to life night after night.”

Canada’s Drag Superstar will share the role of Diana alongside previously announced drag legends Courtney Act (RuPaul’s Drag Race season six), Divina De Campo (RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season one), Rosé (RuPaul’s Drag Raceseason 13) and Kitty Scott-Claus (RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season three and RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars). There is no word on how the queens will share the role of the beloved figure, but one can only imagine it will be ridiculously campy.

Directed and produced by Christopher D. Clegg, the musical is a re-telling of Princess Diana’s story set to a series of certified pop bangers by Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Kylie Minogue and more. It is described as a love letter to the princess who died in a tragic car accident in 1997. It will celebrate her legacy as “one of the most celebrated and adorned figures in history,” with promises of fashion twists, incredible live vocals, fierce choreography and more.

The Diana Mixtape is like nothing you’ve ever seen before, and I’m so excited to launch this world premiere show in London and Salford. Part musical, part concert, part biopic; it’s the lovechild of Six, & Juliet, The Crown, and Drag Race,” Clegg said in a statement for the show’s announcement.

Rounding out the cast are movie and theatre stars Keala Settle as Queen Elizabeth II, Noel Sullivan as King Charles III and Lucinda Lawrenece as Queen Camilla. The musical will make its world premiere at the end of July in London.

The Diana Mixtape will have its inaugural run from July 28 to August 10 at Here @ Outernet in London, England. Tickets start at $100 CDN and can be found on Ticketmaster.
