RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 8 Episode 3 Recap: The Supermarket Ball

The remaining queens get creative with a ball challenge and Jojo Siwa is a guest judge…

Last week we were treated to a double episode season premiere for our newest batch of all stars. This also means we’ve already said goodbye to a pair of sickening queens, but we’ve also got to watch fan favourites return to the main stage as lip sync assassins. So far the group votes have won the power to eliminate, so the tip has rolled into a whopping 30 thousand dollars for whatever all star can finally defeat the assassin. It looks like this week will be the first sewing challenge of the season, let’s see what Ru and the girls have in store for us.

This week’s episode begins in the werk room following Naysha’s elimination. Jimbo reads her message and everyone gathers on the couches to congratulate her on her win. Jimbo reveals she also picked Naysha to go home and Kahanna takes a tally of the lipsticks. Jessica Wild says she doesn’t regret picking Kahanna’s lipstick since Naysha is her Puerto Rican sister. Mrs. Kasha Davis comes out as the other Kahanna voter which turns into a conversation about voting based on track record (tale as old as time).

It’s a new day in the werk room and the queens gather around the table. Kandy brings up the newly inflated lip sync tip thanks to Jimbo, and Jaymes gives the rest of the gals a mini lesson on the hanky code. Grey means bondage FYI. Ru enters the werk room and tells the queens that for this week’s maxi challenge they are throwing themselves a supermarket ball. They will need to deliver three gorgeous looks. The first category is “Legen-Dairy Queens” inspired by the dairy section, the second will be “Fruity Patootie” , a look inspired by nature’s candy. The final category is “Supermarket Supermodel” where the queens will have to create looks from scratch combining iconic supermodel aesthetics with a campy grocery twist. They’ll have to create the lewks using materials you can find at the supermarket. They get to work sifting through the paper bags in search of the right inspiration and raw materials. Mrs. Kasha Davis is nervous because she’ll have to create her outfit sans sewing and there are a lot of talented designers in this cast. This is Jessica Wild’s first ball and LaLa Ri is nervous to redeem herself from the gift bag dress that launched a thousand memes. Kandy just doesn’t know where to start with her shiny foil material. The congenial alliance finds it hard to meet in secret in the middle of the werk room. Ru talks to the queens one by one to take a sneak peek at what they have cooking and give them some pointers, too.

It’s elimination day and the queens put the finishing touches on their supermarket-inspired looks. Jimbo asks LaLa if she has another iconic bag lewk planned for the runway which cracks everyone up. Mrs. Kasha Davis talks about their long-time partner and Darienne Lake reveals that she’s never been in a serious relationship and some of the other queens talk about how happy they are to be single. Out on the runway Ru introduces this week’s panel Michelle, Ts Madison, and this week’s extra special guest Jojo Siwa.

The ball begins and the first category is Legen-Dairy Queens which is not a category for the lactose intolerant girlies (it’s me), but delivers some cute looks nonetheless. The next category is Fruity Patootie that has a real combo of literal fruit looks and more conceptual ensembles. Finally the Supermarket Supermodels take the runway to show off their hand made high fashion. Ru declares Kahanna, Jaymes, Alexis, and Heidi are all safe for the week.

Critiques begin with Jimbo. Michelle liked her first look but clocked her for glueing stuff to her corset for the final look. Jojo loved Kandy’s fruity look, Michelle tells her that her final look wasn’t the most creative but it was a different silhouette, so she gave her some points for that. Michelle tells LaLa that she was so nervous for her but she’s so proud of her for giving three different looks, and all of them were top tier. The judges don’t love Dairenne’s looks but her fruity reveal might save her. Michelle loved that Jessica’s looks told a story and love how creative she was with each look. Michelle tells Mrs. Kasha Davis her milky look was confusing but all of the judges are in agreement that her last look missed the mark completely. Based on critiques Ru announces Jessica Wild is the top all star of the week. Sitting at the bottom are Darienne Lake and Mrs. Kasha Davis. The queens cast their lipstick votes and Jessica makes her decision before heading back out to the main stage.

This week’s lip sync assassin is revealed to be Ra’Jah O’Hara. The two queens lip sync to “Coconuts” by Kim Petras. After a bouncy performance that I couldn’t look away from, Ru decides it’s Jessica that will take the 30 thousand dollar tip, and the win for the week. This is the first time this season that a  singular queen will have the decision on who will be eliminated. Jessica pulls out her chosen lipstick and reveals that the queen leaving the competition this week is Mrs. Kasha Davis who will immediately be entered in the online Fame Games.

Next week on All Stars: The queens create trailers for a sickening new series, Heidi spills some piping hot tea, and another lip sync assassin is ruvealed.
