RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15 Episode 8 Recap: LipSync Lalaparuza Smackdown

The ten remaining queens face off in a lip sync smackdown until the final queen is sent packing…

Last week we said goodbye to Aura after the queens took to the stage in an acting challenge that had them rebooting the infamous Daytona Wind series. Tensions also came to a boil between Malaysia and Mistress, which only helped them knock their scene out of the park. Their on screen chemistry prompted them to bury the hatchet. This week the queens will compete in a lip sync smackdown that’ll ultimately send one more queen home. Let’s jump right in.

This week’s episode begins in the werk room following Aura’s elimination. The remaining queens enter and Jax reads her lipstick message but she’s feeling a little self-conscious about being in the bottom two weeks in a row. Over on the couches the rest of the queens congratulate Mistress for winning. Loosey tells the others that she’s pissed and annoyed that she wasn’t in the top. Spice announces that she’s entering her top era which might be a case of drag delusion. The next day in the werk room and over at the table the queens rip into Loosey for being too vocally upset about being safe. Ru enters and tells the queens that they are officially halfway through the season. For this week’s maxi challenge Ru is putting their charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent to the ultimate test with a good old fashion lipsync smackdown.

The queens get into lipsync drag and everyone is excited and nervous about how the night will go. Out on the main stage Ru introduces this week’s panel of judges Michelle and Ross because tonight it’s just family. The queens make their way to the stage and Ru explains that they will compete in a series of eight lip syncs. If they win, they’re safe for the week. If they lose they’ll move onto the next round until there are two queens remaining. The final queen to lose a lip sync will be eliminated from the competition. A member of the pit crew randomly selects Malaysia for the first lip sync, and she’ll get to choose her opponent. Malaysia chooses Marcia (who gets to choose the song). Marcia chooses Boys Don’t Cry by Anitta. Both queens match each other’s energy but Marcia pulls out some acrobatics that shocks Malaysia a little bit. Ru declares that the winner of the first lip sync of the evening is Marcia.

The next queen to have their ball picked is Loosey who chooses Spice as her opponent. Spice chooses Do You Wanna Touch by Joan Jett. The whole performance is a low-energy close call for both of them but Loosey pulls out the early win, which leaves Spice still up for elimination. Round three is Luxx VS Salina to Celine Dion It’s All Coming Back To Me Now. Salina takes the win which means Luxx will have to lip sync again later on. Round four is Mistress who chooses Jaxx who picks Tell It To My Heart by Taylor Dayne. Both queens really pull out their best moves and it’s another one that’s too close to call. Ru decides that the winner of this round is Mistress.

Round five is Anetra VS Sasha performing to I’m In Love With A Monster by Fifth Harmony. These are the two queens everybody was afraid to lip sync against, so you better believe they are both giving absolutely everything. Slits, shablams, hairography this lip sync has it all. Sasha wins the round which means we’re officially moving into the next phase.

Round six is Malaysia who chooses Spice. Spice picks Don’t Go Yet by Camila Cabello. Malaysia doesn’t really know the words, which is exactly why Spice chose the song, but she doesn’t know the words either. Ru chooses Malaysia to stay and Spice will have to lip sync again. Round seven is Anetra VS Luxx VS Jax in a three way lip sync to The Right Stuff by Vanessa Williams. Right out of the gate Anetra is giving another strong performance and the other queens are giving too. Luxx comes out on top and is sent back to the werk room. Spice, Anetra, and Jax step forward for the final round but only two of them will lip sync for their lives.

Bruno from the Pit Crew randomly picks Anetra who now has the power to pick one queen to automatically save. She chooses to save Spice which means the final lip sync of the night is Anetra VS Jax performing to Finally by CeCe Peniston. It’s a pretty even lip sync and you can tell both queens want to stay in the competition. In the end Ru decides to save Anetra to slay another day, which means it’s the end of the line for Jax. Anetra rejoins the others in the werk room who all toast to being in the top nine OFFICIALLY.

Next week on Drag Race: It’s the 200th episode and you better bust out your sewing machines (or hot glue guns) because  the queens are throwing a ball.
