RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15 Episode 7 Recap: Daytona Wind 2

The remaining queens star in a reboot of Daytona Wind and actor Harvey Guillén is a guest judge…

Last week RuPaul said “sashay away” to Robin Fierce after the queens competed in the girl group maxi challenge.  Robin lost the lip sync to Jax who brought out her gymnast skills for the special occasion. After a difficult time in the last challenge Aura came out on top and was named the winner of the Shady-Pines-A-Palooza main challenge. This week the remaining queens will over act as they star in the highly anticipate reboot to Daytona Wind. Let’s get into it.

This week’s episode begins in the werk room following Robin’s departure. The remaining queens enter the room and Loosey is surprised Robin left the competition as soon as she did. Over on the couches Mistress brings up Malaysia’s comments in untucked. Sasha works on resolving the issue but Malaysia won’t give in to a conversation about it with Mistress. It’s a new day in the werk room and the queens enter cautiously after the disagreement the night before. Ru enters and lets the girls know that for this week’s maxi challenge they’ll be starring in the reboot of Daytona Wind. This time around the show will be a sitcom instead of a soap opera. Since Aura won the maxi challenge she will get to assign the roles.

Over on the couches the queens read through the roles and they’re distributed pretty fairly. Mistress and Malaysia accidentally end up as scene partners. In their scene groups the queens rehearse their lines. Aura took the main role everyone wanted, but couldn’t connect with it during the read through, so Mistress made a crafty switch to secure a main character moment for herself. After a quick rehearsal it’s time to film their scenes and the queens are met on set with Ru who will be directing the shoot. Spice has a little trouble taking direction but in the next scene Mistress and Malaysia’s tension makes for some funny moments. Aura has trouble remembering her lines, Marcia and Anetra work really well together, and there’s a surprise guest star.

As the queens get ready for the runway Mistress and Malaysia squash the tension and resolve their issue from the last episode. Out on the runway Ru introduces this week’s panel of judges Michelle, Carson, and this week’s extra special guest Harvey Guillén. On the runway the category is “Puffer Please” and the queens strut in the most fashionable winter wear I’ve ever seen. After the runway it’s time for the premier of the Daytona Wind reboot. Everybody gives a good performance but Mistress and Malaysia are the definitive scene stealers (followed closely by Marcia and Anetra). The secret guest star is revealed to be Danny Trejo, who absolutely delivers in the scene.

After the premiere Ru calls Loosey, Sasha, Luxx, and Salina forward as they are all safe for the week. Critiques begin with Spice. Carson tells her that her performance was a little one note, Michelle says she’s bored of her runway trotting and asks her to give something new. The judges were glued to Malaysia and told her she embodied the role. Carson tells her that her runway is one of his favourites on the runway. Michelle tells Aura her runway was gorgeous, but Carson says her performance was lacking which the other judges agree with. Carson also tells Jax their performance got lost in the mix. The judges love Mistress’s performance and praise her out-of-the-box puffer look. Anetra and Marcia also get great critiques on their performance as scene partners and Michelle compliments Marcia on taking the critiques about her makeup and applying them week after week.

After deliberations Ru announces that Mistress is the winner of this week’s challenge. Malaysia, Anetra, Marcia, and Spice are all safe for the week which leaves Aura and Jax both up for elimination. The bottom queens lip sync for their life to Sweetest Pie by Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa. Jax once again brings out her gymnast skills but Aura is also giving it her best shot. In the end Ru decides that Jax will get one more chance in the competition and Aura will sashay away.

Next week on Drag Race: The queens compete in a lip sync lala pa-Ru-za with a giant twist.
