Montreal’s 2022 Pride Parade Has Been Cancelled

Hours before it was due to take place on Sunday, organizers announced the cancellation of Montreal’s Pride parade…

Organizers of the Montréal Pride Festival have cancelled today’s Pride parade citing a lack of security staff and volunteers for the parade route. Organizers added that the decision was made in collaboration with Montreal police.

“A lack of sufficient personnel to ensure security along the route has forced the organizers to cancel the event in agreement with the Montréal Police Department,” Montreal Pride said in a statement posted on Facebook.

Montreal’s Pride parade had been scheduled to make its way east on René-Lévesque Blvd., from Metcalfe St. to Alexandre de Sève St. Tens of thousands of people were expected to attend.

Events taking place at the Esplanade du Parc olympique from 2:00pm, including the closing show with Pabllo Vittar, will go on as planned.

Montreal’s Pride parade was previously cancelled due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The following year a scaled-back march, without floats or vehicles, was held.
