Off-Mute, Fido’s artist-to-artist interview and performance series, is back with a new episode out now on Fido’s IGTV. The new episode features Shay Lia and Elisapie.

At first, it might seem that Shay Lia and Elisapie could not be more different. They represent different musical genres with Shay Lia taking notes from Janet Jackson and Beyoncé, while Elisapie’s style is drawn from folk stars of the 60s and 70s, like Neil Young. Their distinctly different heritages of Djiboutian and Inuit respectively, broaden this contrast. However, while these details are revealed as we watch them meet for the first time, the conversation doesn’t paint a picture of difference, it’s just the opposite—and that’s the point.

The episode runs a highlighter over their similarities as the pair recognizes their differences with curiosity and affinity. The topics covered in between their individual performances include their cultures, languages, love of music, and finding their voices in the literal and figurative sense. There are genuine moments of subtle reactions and shared laughs that, in this unscripted format, put forward a beautiful sense of humanity that is becoming the hallmark of the Off-Mute series.

You can catch this episode on Instagram now, @FidoMobile and below. Episode 1 of Off-Mute, which features Lido Pimienta and Witch Prophet, is still available as well. Episode 3, featuring Jeremy Dutcher and Haviah Mighty is slated for May.
