Shawn Mendes is once again addressing the rumours about his sexuality.

The 20-year-old singer opened up in a new interview where he addressed his Rolling Stone cover story, in which he had previously addressed gay rumours and said that he felt like he needed to be seen out with girls “to prove to people that I’m not gay.”

Mendes, who has never publicly dated anyone since his career took off, admitted that it’s been difficult to navigate speculation about his sexuality.

“In the back of my heart, I feel like I need to go be seen with someone — like a girl — in public, to prove to people that I’m not gay,” he remarked.

The singer added that “even though in my heart I know that it’s not a bad thing,” there is “still a piece of me that thinks that. And I hate that side of me.”
