Canadian Olympian Gillian Apps Marries Rival U.S. Olympian Meghan Duggan

An epic hockey rivalry that turned into fairytale romance…

Over the weekend, three-time Canadian women’s hockey gold medallist Gillian Apps married longtime archrival U.S. women’s hockey gold medallist and captain of the U.S. Olympic championship team Meghan Duggan!

The pair were married in a romantic outdoor ceremony in Pownal, Maine on Saturday afternoon, surrounded by family and friends including fellow Olympian bridesmaids Kacey Bellamy, Brianna Decker, and Erika Lawler.

Apps, who is from Unionville, Ontario, helped Team Canada win three gold hockey medals at the 2006 Turin, 2010 Vancouver, and 2014 Sochi Olympic Games. She played against her now-wife at the 2010 and 2014 games, according to a statement from Team USA. She retired from Olympic hockey in 2015.

Duggan served as Team USA captain at the PyeongChang 2018 games in South Korea, where she led Team USA to a gold-medal win over Canada, a first for the team in 20 years.

Both athletes turned to Instagram to share photos of their special day with their fans.

Apps shared a photo of the women at their table during the ceremony smiling, as well as one with the entire wedding party. She wrote: “Nothing but smiles after this amazing weekend ❤️”

Duggan posted several photos, including a black-and-white image taken during their first dance. The intimate moment between the women captured them smiling with their heads pressed against each other. She also included photos of the brides during their vows and after they said: “I do.”
