RuPaul Gets A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

RuPaul: “Shantay, you stay”…

A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame honouring two-time Emmy winner RuPaul was unveiled today, Friday March 16. RuPaul Andre Charles received the 2,631st star on the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, California.

The ceremony and star unveiling was held in front of the World of Wonder production offices (the company behind RuPaul’s Drag Race) at 6652 Hollywood Blvd.

RuPaul was introduced by legendary Oscar-winning actress, Jane Fonda, who noted that his star should be “at least three sizes bigger than any other star on the Walk of Fame” because no one else who has a star has “launched an industry like RuPaul has.”

“Behind the glamour, behind the drag queen is a man of great depth, incredible intelligence and compassion,” she told the crowd.

“I love this man very much. I’ve just gotten to know him and it’s one of the great pleasures of my life.”

When it was time for RuPaul to speak, he ordered the crowd to yell: “Everybody say love!” and then held back tears as he said that “this is absolutely the most important moment in my professional life.”

Ru was joined at the ceremony by his three sisters, his husband Georges LeBar, and his tenth grade teacher Bill Pennell, who told the future drag queen “not to take life too f-ing seriously.” Drag Race’s Ross Mathews, Candis Cayne, Todrick Hall, and World of Wonder co-founders Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey were also in attendance.

“RuPaul is a ruvolutionary performer who brought the art of drag into the American public eye and made it mainstream,” said Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
