Taking his date to the prom seemed innocent enough to Marc Hall back in May of 2002.
But because his date was also a male, Hall’s Catholic school near Toronto opposed the idea. It took the intervention of an Ontario Superior Court judge to clear the way for Hall and his boyfriend to experience a rite of passage that straight couples have enjoyed since the dawn of high school itself. As the ruling judge so eloquently put it at the time:
“The idea of equality speaks to the conscience of all humanity, dignity and worth.” A sentiment for prom night and every night.
