Olympian Pride

FLASHBACK February 2010 in LGBT History

In the long history of the Olympics, gay athletes almost always performed and earned medals in silence about their sexuality. But with the opening of the Vancouver Winter Games on Feb. 12, 2010, that changed. Among the gathering venues for competitors in Whistler, B.C., was Pride House. LGBT contenders were welcome to socialize there, and, in doing so, many discovered they weren’t nearly as isolated as they might have thought.
